As soon as they had found out where the shooter had been located, Brian left with a SWAT team. Rhia didn't hurry their team, but told them to be extra-careful in bagging the evidence. She herself was taking photos of every possible corner. She collected hairs from the victims' clothes and finding a great variety of them, sighed. So someone surely wanted to cover their trace. Then, her mobile beeped. Rhia snapped it open and read the text.
"That doesn't sound good...", she muttered. So, the sheriff would need extra protection. Quickly she called his number, explaining what they had found out. Due to his order to report every finding, she also told him about precautions he should take. But he wouldn't want to hear about it. "Keep on working!", was his adieu.
Rhia sighed and shot a glance at her watch. She wondered who would be earlier - Sheldon or the FBI...?
"I demand to see who's in charge, right now!", from downstairs answered her question. She calmly closed her kit, rolled her eyes into Sam's direction and gracefully descended down the stairs.
"Good morning. I'm Rhiannon Nerice, supervisor of the crimelab. I am in charge here, on orders of our Sheriff. How can I help you?", she forced herself to smile.
Her opponent snorted and shook his head. "I'm Agent Greeley, Federal Bureau of Investigations. I demand to see anything you have found. This case is ours now.", he said with his eyes blinking.
"I'm sorry. I haven't been informed to withdraw. My team is about to collect the evidence which we will process in the lab. You can enter as soon as we are finished. And of course you can take insights in our findings.", Rhia said with a sharp voice.
Agent Greeley looked at her unbelieving and looked at her his eyes drawn to slits. His eyes were glittering now with fury.

Sam was now left alone in the room, after Brian had raced off to the apartment where they had located the shooter had shot from, Rhia having left to talk to the FBI and Danny had left after collecting the shards of the vase. She smiled to herself and walked over to the mayor's wife's body, careful to not disturb anything in the scene that they hadn't seen yet. Without touching the body, she looked at the wound and the woman. The mayor's wife looked like a strong woman, but she also looked ordinary enough to not be noticed in the streets. Sam felt sorry for this woman who could as well have been her next-door-neighbor. Whatever political games the mayor might have been involved with, this woman might have had not a clue about those games. Sometimes, in moments like this, Sam was really happy she was only known to those who needed the know her and no one else. At those moments, she was happy to have quite an ordinary, yet very interesting, job. She pushed all the thoughts of conspiracies out of her mind and carefully walked over to the mayor. She had seen his face on TV many times, but looking at him from this close distance, he seemed also like just any other man. 'Everybody is the same and yet unique', had she once read. The look in the eyes of both the man and the woman made her sad. Cold, lifeless eyes, no emotion. But she wasn't here to overthink life and not even to find out what conspiracy had been made against these two people. She was here for them and them alone. She smiled and looked around the room. There were only a few windows in the room and through only one these shot could have come. As they had. It would have taken weeks, perhaps months, to prepare for such a hit. When the door suddenly opened, Sam was startled and looked up.

Danny returned to the lab and started examining the vase and putting the peices together. He also took the shell he found out of the small plastic container he carried it in and started to find match's that could link them to the shooter

Sheldon groaned when he pulled up to the scene and saw that he had arrived a few moments too late, the FBI had already arrived. He got out of his car and surveyed the area, searching for Rhia. He caught sight of her, already talking to on of the Agents, and he made his way over to her.

She looked up, not liking the way the FBI agent was talking. Feeling about ready to punch the guy, she sighed and remembered a saying her mother told her. "Gamanshite," she muttered, heading upstairs to take more pictures of the scene. She had heard a door open, but didn't think anyone else was up here except for another CSI. Still, she was getting nervous and wary of the noise.

Brian paced the room, scrutinizing it closely. It was a small efficiency apartment, but it had a perfect view of the mayor's house. The walls and ceiling were a faded white, the floor was that tacky yellow linoleum they stick in cheap apartments. He sniffed the floor. "Yep," he said to no one in particular, "bleach." He sniffed the walls and the window sill. Bleach, bleach, bleach. The room had been completely scrubbed down and sterilized before the sniper had left.
Brian noticed a tiny mark on the little bit of wall inside the window. He took out a magnifying glass and examined it more closely. It reflected the light and was brass in color. Brian thought a moment, and then crouched down by the window as if he were holding a rifle. Then he looked back at the mark.
When a semi- or fully-automatic gun is fired, the hot gases from the barrel are directed back to the chamber, where they push the slide back. This ejects the empty bullet casing and readies the chamber for a new round. Brian knew that the casing would land anywhere from 3 to 5 feet from where the gun was fired... which meant that the casing had to go flying a few feet first.
This casing was ejected out of the rifle's chamber, and hit the inside wall in the window. Brian took the physics a little further, too. He knew that if an object hit a surface at a particular angle, the object would bounce away from that surface in the opposite direction but at the same angle. According to where the mark was... it looked like the casing had bounced off the inside wall and right out the open window! Brian looked down, and saw a bunch of thick shrubs, four stories below him. While the sniper would have been careful to pick up the other two bullet casings, there was no time to get the one that accidentally fell into the shrubs.
Brian bagged the photo of the Sheriff and took the SWAT team downstairs, where he instructed them to rip every last plant out of the ground in a 10' semicircle under the sniper's window. The landlord, hearing the noise, came out to protest the police annhiliating his landscaping. He was a short, old Asian man, and had a green bathrobe on and big, furry slippers.
"Who are you people? Why you wreck my building? What is meaning of this?" He screamed. The SWAT team ignored him, hell bent on finding that casing. "I demand you stop now! All of you!" The landlord kept screaming in his whiny voice. Brian turned him, and glared. "Hey, shut up. Ok? You want to argue, you can either argue with Sergeant Rip-Your-Arms-Off, or you can argue with me." The landlord took a good, hard look at Brian, noting the bags under his eyes, the way his jaw was set with grim determination, and at the powerful sidearm on his belt. Then he looked at the sergeant of the SWAT Team, who had just finished ripping out an entire bush by himself. The landlord turned back to Brian, and said, "I think I not argue with you tonight. Please be careful. I sorry for screaming."
Brian and the SWAT team got back to work.

Somehow, Sam was relieved it was one of the new CSIs, of whom she only knew the name 'Jade', that had entered the room instead of the FBI. Yeah, she had noticed the FBI arriving on the scene, but she hadn't paid any attention to them. She had nothing against them, but that didn't mean she had to like any of the Feds. "Hey" she said quietly, hoping to catch the CSI's attention. "How're things downstairs? Are the Feds behaving themselves a little?" she hoped to break the ice with this. Sam sighed and pointed at the victims. "Shame, isn't it? Poor them. Imagine you're sleeping, when suddenly the sound of breaking glass, the vase in this case, wakes you and you note a bullethole. Seconds later, you're dead."

Danny still in the lab, had got the vase put back together. Smiling he started to spray the light mist on it to find any finger prints. He also checked on the shell casing and found it came from from the same gun Brian said, but the only problem was the gun was registered to the Sheriff, Danny looked up as the vase finished and from there started to look up the finger prints he found on both, shell and vase. (ADDING SUSPECT >_<)

"Got it!" one of the SWAT officers shouted gleefully. "Gimme," Brian snapped. He looked at it. It was a rather large caliber for a rifle: .40 caliber. He bagged it as evidence, and went back inside the apartment building to find the landlord. He went to the office, and knocked on the door. "Go away police! I no want argue with you!" came the muffled, whiny reply. "I'm coming in, its just up to you whether or not you like having a door," Brian responded. The door opened. Brian looked at the small Asian man, still in his bathrobe. "What's your name?" Brian asked. "I am Li Ngyuen." "Ah, Mr. Ngyuen," Brian said quietly as he held up the baggy with the large casing in it. "This casing came from a bullet. The bullet was fired from a gun. The gun was fired in one of your apartments." "Mr. Detective Sir, there are many crazies with guns that rent my rooms." "I don't doubt that, this is New York, after all. But this particular gun was used to kill the mayor. " "I no understand." "Someone used one of your apartments to kill the mayor of New York with a sniper rifle. How do you say 'deep shit' in Chinese, Mr. Ngyuen?" "Niou-se." Brian patted Mr. Ngyuen on the head, and said, "That's cute. Now, we would like all your records, please."
Twenty minutes later, Brian and the SWAT team left the apartments, carrying a large external hard drive where Mr. Ngyuen kept all his records. He and the SWAT team took the truck back to the crime scene with the new evidence.

When Rhia noticed Sheldon approaching she stopped Greely's tirade with a maybe too rude gesture. But she knew she had to face the Feds as a tough woman, otherwise she wouldn't be respected by them. The agent stood there, mouth agape when she turned to greet her coroner.
"Hi, doc. They are upstairs. Sam and the new girl, Jade - I think it was Jade... are still there. You won't miss it...", she winked at him and rolled her eyes before she turned to the agent again.
"I'm sorry for the interruption, Sir.", she said with due respect. Agent Greely only shook his head. His nostrils flared. She didn't take it as a good sign.
"I demand to let my people see the crime scene. You're not on duty any more...", his voice had fallen silent and become threatening.
Rhia clenched her teeth. Gods, she had heard about their persistence, but this men was to drive her crazy. C'mon, Brian... she thought.
"We are here to investigate the murder of the Mayor and his wife. As soon as we are finished, you can enter with your men to get a look by yourself. And as the local authority we are on duty...", with these words she turned around to face Brian, who had just returned.

Frowning slightly, Danny picked his cell up and dialed Brians number, "Hey..yeh could you come to the lab..there is something you might want to see!' On the screen beside him the results showed that the fingerprints on the shell belonged to Brian

Brian clapped the FBI agent on the back as he came up to the man and Rhia. He could tell by the look of disdain from Rhia that the agent had been giving her a hard time. The agent swung around at Brian's gesture, and barked angrily in his face, "Listen, son, don't EVER touch me again, or--" "Hey there agent... uh... Greeley. I'm detective Shefkowitz," Brian said cheerfully, completely ignoring the agent's furious retort. "Well, detective," Greeley sneered, "I'd like a complete briefing, and I'd like all evidence transfered to my federal investigators." "Oh really? Well I'd like for you to stop acting like a complete jackass to the Crime Lab's supervisor."
Agent Greeley looked like he got slapped in the face. Nobody had ever spoken to him that way before. He stood there, eyes wide, and mouth open. Brian's phone beeped. Brian took it out of his pocket, and sighed, before saying, "Well, ladies and... agent. Apparently there's something at the lab that needs my attention. Rhia? I'm going to drive one of the SUV's so I can transport some of the evidence back to the lab." "Wait just a minute, detective. I just told you that the FBI has this case." "Well, I'll need to see some paperwork on that. We're very careful about chain of custody around here," Brian answered him. He knew that the FBI wouldn't hesitate to crank out the necessary court orders and such, but at least it would give them more time.
Brian drove back to the lab, and walked in carrying a large box of evidence. He walked over to the fingerprint lab were Danny was working. "Hey, Danny, get a match?"

"You've gotta be kidding me," Brian said in quiet disbelief, looking at the screen. But he could see clearly there was no mistake. His fingerprint was clearly on the casing. He frowned for a long time, looking at the screen. The he turned to Danny, and said, "Listen. I don't even own a 30-aught-6 rifle. I only have two firearms -- the H&K USP .45cal I carry on me when I'm on duty, and a Walther P99 in a drawer in my desk at my apartment."
Danny frowned. Brian continued, in a hurried voice. "Listen to me, Danny. I need to be placed in custody, per protocol, and interviewed. My apartment and my car must be thoroughly searched for evidence, and then the D.A. can decide whether or not to drop the charges. I'm being framed in order to slow the team down, so we need to get this out of the way as quickly as possible."
Danny sighed and called to an officer passing by in the hallway. The officer came over, and Danny explained that Brian needed to be arrested on suspicion of murder. As Brian was being disarmed and handcuffed, he told Danny one last thing.
"Don't, under any circumstances, let the FBI know about this."
And with that, he was escorted to a holding cell. He buried his face in his hands.
