Sam looked at Katie. "Right. The alphabet, Emilio first then. Okay. You ready?" Without waiting for the answer, she walked over to the interrogation rooms, only to see Rhia and Brian there. "Uh... hi" Sam said. "So, they let you out, didn't they?" she smiled at Brian who seemed a little drowzy. "Okay, so Katie and I will interrogate Emilio first. Anything in particular you two want us to ask him or Paulo?"

Brian shrugged. "The Five W's, I guess. Confessions would be fantastically helpful; we do have quite a bit of evidence against them anyway. But, there could be more we don't know. But I'd say it's about time we get them to wrap it up for us so we can put a cute little bow on it and put it under the DA's Christmas tree."

Sam smiled. "Sounds wonderful. All right. C'mon Katie, let's do this."
She entered the interrogation room and looked at Emilio.
"Good afternoon" she said coldly. Emilio looked up. "Is it?" he asked just as cold. Sam smiled. "So. Well. Is there anything you'd like to tell me?"
Emilio shook his head, just as Sam'd expected.
"All right" she continued. "Let's dig into the history first. You and your sweet little brother Paulo were responsible for the kidnapping of one of our colleagues several years ago, isn't it?" Emilio didn't answer. "Of course you two were, we've got the evidence to prove it. But of course we'll not talk about that case here. No, we're gonna talk about your cute little breaking out of jail thingy. Tell me; where'd you get the idea from? Have you been watching Prison Break or something?" Emilio again said nothing. "No worries, if you don't talk then I'll do the story for you. The four of you broke out of jail, killing a guard and his dog on your way out. That ain't too nice, is it? And while you were out of jail, you committed quite a number of crimes while trying to stay out of the hands of justice. That ain't too nice either. And you know just as well as I do that this means a big sentence. So-" Sam turned off the recorder. "I could make you a deal if you'd talk to me." She turned the recorder back on. No evidence of her proposing a deal. No deal. Emilio smiled. "Oh miss, you really think I'll talk to you? You must be out of your mind." Sam smiled back at him. "Well, I'll admit that sometimes I am. But everyone is at times. Would you like to know what we want to know and what we've found out so far?" She continued without waiting for an answer. "We'd like to know who's involved in this, what you guys have done exactly, where everthing took place, when you guys did this - although we know that, it's just for the record - and why for god's sake. Now; what we know. That nice group of yours is called Shen Jing Bing. I'd like to compare it to the mafia because the mafia interests me, but some how it isn't quite similar. The mafia's got a complex hierarchy while you don't seem to have any. The mafia is way more powerful. And the mafia's got this big rule of Omertà . And of course this thing of loyalty. And the last things you guys seem to lack as well. You see, I've just been observing the interrogation of James. I like observing interrogations. And James was talking. That doesn't seem too nice and quiet. He's screwing you and your buddies doing that, doesn't he?" "Ah, James's been an arrogant prick ever since day one" Emilio said. "He was only in it for himself. He was so pleased with himself that he had scared some police chick several times et cetera. I think he actually believed he could scare anyone. I wasn't scared of him though." Sam smiled. "Hmm. He seems like an arrogant prick to me too. But he was in it for himself, you said. I mean, why? Whatfor? What would he gain by being in it?" "This ain't gonna hurt me, is it? I mean, you just proposed a deal..." Sam didn't answer that one. "Anyway" Emilio continued. "James believed Shen Jing Bing could give him protection." "How?" "It's got its ways, all right? I mean, the things we did..." Emilio stopped. "What is it?" Sam asked the nicest way she could. "This is kinda weird." Emilio looked at Katie. "I'm actually talking to you two. Isn't it enough that James is already talking to you? Don't you have enough evidence yet?" Sam smiled. "Well, James is of course a pretty annoying person. He could be telling lies, you know, accusing you of things you didn't do and stuff." "Hmm. No. I think I'll ask for a lawyer." "D'you really want a lawyer?" Sam said. "I mean, James was a lawyer. You really can't trust those guys." "How d'you know he was a lawyer?" "We know everything" she smiled. "Sounds familiar." Sam laughed a moment. Not too happy though. "I was the police chick James scared." "So he wasn't too honest to you as well" Emilio seemed really pleased with himself. "Well, missy, since I've got a deal anyway I might as well tell you anything. Victim to victim this time then." "Sure" "Okay. So some guy in Shen Jing Bing set it up so we could break out. And we did. Ryuko killed that guard while Paulo killed the dogs. Stupids, I said, this would certainly alarm anyone. But they had already done it. James said he knew this place in town where we could stay for a while. Paulo and I knew some place as well but Ryuko said that that place was unsafe because we'd brought that colleague of yours there when we kidnapped him. And that's actually all of it." Sam smiled and got up. The evidence supported all of this - had they coincidentally interrogated the weak link first? That was nice for a change. "Thanks, Emilio" she whispered. "Katie's gonna talk to you now. I have to talk to someone to get something done."
If she had really cracked the weak link here, it wouldn't be hard for Katie to get other things out of him. And otherwise they already had all the info they needed. She walked out of the interrogation room and looked at Rhia and Brian. "I think I like observing interrogations better than actually doing them. I was lucky Emilio was this weak. What do you think? Can we get things done with this information he's given us?"

She was sitting in the hallway after she had been released. Throwing a kunai up and catching it, she was staring absently at the wall across from her. Sighing, she held the kunai in a hand and looked at the ground. Her gang was probably going to give her much grief for doing what she did, but at least she helped bring a dangerous person back.

"Certainly more than enough. Evidence, confessions... I think our biggest problem is what to do with Jade. As long as she maintains an active connection with her gang, she's in trouble. And considering all the hard work she's done for us, I'd hate to have to arrest her. She could easily sever ties with the gang, destroy her... impressive... collection of weaponry... but I don't know how her gang would like that. Most gangs have this mentality about members: If they can't have the member, then nobody can. And there's no way we could get her into a protection program without disclosing the fact that she's an ex-gang member, which would make the whole ex-gang thing moot."
Brian paused for a breath.
"There's going to be a little investigation on my part, and a little one on Jade's part. As for the badguys, we nailed them. Hard. Shen Jing Bing is, for all intents and purposes, incapacitated. We will see small outbreaks of attempted copycat gangs for the next few months, but... Shen Jing Bing is gone, gone, gone."
Another breath, and Brian noticed Jade absentmindedly playing with one of her kunais in the hall.
"You catch all that Jade? I'm covered for my investigation. In fact, I think I'll just get away with one week's administrative leave. I'll be back in time to testify against these creeps. But what are you going to do, Jade?"
Brian really was out of ideas. Too many rules had been broken on this one, and they were lucky they were able to collect so much evidence and get the confession they needed, otherwise, they would have a hard time in court. Highly paid lawyers could probably even prevent the gangsters from being convicted. Brian's brain was shot coming up with ideas to get ahead of these guys. But, they finally had them, and now Brian just wanted to sleep. No more thinking, puzzle solving, cloak-and-dagger missions... just... closure.

Sam nodded. "That's gonna be hard. Maybe she could reason with her gang, and maybe - just maybe - we could get her to give us useful info on her gang, which would justify her connections with it. But again, it's a lie. And lies are so complicated. Even the simplest of lies is most complicated than the most complex version of the truth. So it'll be really hard to get her off the hook. But I think it's her case, not ours. She has to decide for herself what's more important to her."

She walked over and smiled slightly. "I think you should know something about the Dragons. We're different from your normal gangs. It may have looked like I was going to kill the members, but that's not how we work. Sure, we carry swords and kunai around like we're planning a killing spree, but those weapons are mainly for self defense." She shrugged and looked at Brian and Sam. "I'm not going to cut ties with the girls. It's how I stay on top of things around the state. We're not a deadly gang that needs to be stopped or broken up. We're just a bunch of girls who like to help out the local authority from time to time." She turned and headed down the hallway a bit before turning. "Oh, and if you must know. We've never killed anyone before. We only aim to capture the bad guys. They may get hurt in the process, but that's how it goes."

Brian smiled. She could certainly take care of herself. Looks like things were finally wrapped it.
"That's how it goes," he repeated softly, grabbing his coat and giving Rhia a warm smile and then walking towards his car.
