Okay, so this was my first CSI fic, so I'm sorry if it sucks majorly. I have another one, a Nick/Sara- that one's a bit better, and I'll post it later.
-----------------------------------
“Morning, Greg.”
“Morning, Griss.”
Greg Sanders put on his white lab coat and got to work. After the particularly heard case they had finished yesterday, he was feeling very tired from the lack of sleep. Grissom had made him stay late to help him with an experiment, and by doing that, the case had been dismissed and the man was put in jail.
A distressed Sara Sidle walked into the lab about two hours later, holding a print lifter. She gave him the paper and he just looked at it.
“What do you want me to do?” he asked.
“I want you to analyze it.” she said, tapping her fingers on the metal table.
“Okay,” he said. He scanned the print into the computer and leaned back so Sara could see the screen. “Nike running shoe, size 8. New job?” he asked her.
“Yeah, body found five miles from a casino. Me, Warrick, and Nick on the job.” Sara said.
“Oh, so I’ll be seein’ ya around.” Greg said, handing her the paper that just came out of the printer.
“Yeah, thanks Greg.” she said, taking the paper from him and going out of the lab.
“No problem,” he said to himself, spinning around in his chair.
********************
“Got your call, Grissom.” Catherine said as she made her way over to him. Dusk was coming on and Catherine took her flashlight out to see better. “What happened here?”
“Couple found a body, floating in the creek.” Grissom shone his light over to the couple who were standing with the police.
“Have you questioned them yet?” Catherine asked.
“No, waiting for you.”
Catherine smiled and she and Grissom made their way to the couple.
“Catherine Willows, Gil Grissom, Las Vegas crime lab. May we talk to you about what happened?” Griss asked.
“Yeah, sure.” the man said, shifting his weight.
“What were you doing when you found the body?”
“We were walking around the park, came by the creek.” the man moved his shoulders. “Saw something in it, went to see what it was. The guy’s about my age, noticed about two bullet holes in the chest.”
“What did you do after?”
“Uh, I pulled him out, then I checked his pockets for a wallet. Identification, y’know?” he said.
“That’s tampering with evidence, Mr-?” Catherine informed him.
“Richards. Grant Richards.”
“Mr. Richards, looking through evidence after you found it is against the law. You could-”
“I was just looking for who the guy was, okay? Thought I’d help if I did.” Grant said.
“Did you find anything?” Grissom asked.
“Yeah, found a wallet, everything was soaked, so I couldn’t read it.”
“Was there money still in it?”
“Yeah, a lot. Didn’t look through it, though.”
“Where is the wallet now?” Catherine asked.
“Uh, one of the officers have it.” Grant answered.
“Okay, thank you.” Grissom said as he and Catherine walked away.
“Money still in the wallet, means it wasn’t a robbery.” Catherine said to him.
“Yeah, but what was it?” he asked.
********************
“Sara! Over here, I think I found something else!” Nick shouted from behind the building.
The vic was found in a building five miles from the busiest casino in Las Vegas. The body was discovered with only her underclothes on, when the janitor come in the morning. Warrick had found a shoe print when they got there, and asked Sara to lift it and take it to Greg to analyze.
“What did you find?” she asked, crouching down beside him.
“Well, you see for yourself.” Nick pulled back some weeds and exposed a shot gun.
Sara leaned forwards to examine the gun. “It’s a 12 gauge.” she said, looking at Nick. “I thought Warrick said were we looking for a caliber.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. Bag it and show it to him.
“‘Kay,” Sara carefully picked up the gun and bagged it. She got up and dusted herself off. ‘Wonder if there’s any more around, ‘cause Warrick definitely said that it was a caliber.’ she thought as she went to where Warrick was at.
“Hey Warrick,” she called. He looked up as she got closer. “I guess you were wrong about the gun. 12 gauge, not a caliber.”
“Really?” Warrick said. He got up and took the bag from her. “Al said that the bullets were .22 caliber.”
“Well, either Al was wrong, or we got the wrong gun.”
********************
“Hey Al, what do you have for me today?” Grissom said as he came into the morgue.
“You have the body that was found in the creek?” he asked.
“Yes, sir.” Grissom said, putting on some gloves.
“Well,” Al said, pulling back the cover on the vic. “You were right about the gun wounds. Two on upper chest. I pulled these from them.” He showed Grissom the container he had put the bullets in. “This one’s a 12 gauge.”
“Warrick told me his vic was shot with a gauge, also. Could it have been from the same gun?”
He gave Grissom the container. “They could be.”
“Thanks Al.”
********************
“Hey, Griss, find out anything else?” Catherine ask, passing him in the hallway.
“No, but I did find out what kind of gun it was. Go see Al...” he said. “Hey, Greg...”
He went into the lab and stopped in his tracks.
“Greg, what did you do?” he asked. “Or maybe I don’t want to know.”
“Oh hey Grissom.” Greg said, turning off the radio. He ran his fingers through his hair. “You like it?”
“Sure Greg. Can you test these?” he asked, handing him the container.
“Sure, put ‘em under the ‘scope.” Greg said.
Grissom took off his glasses and looked through the lenses. “These are definitely 12 gauge.” he said.
“Yeah, check out the one that Nick and Sara found.”
Grissom looked at Greg and looked through the other microscope. “They’re the same.” he said, putting his glasses back on.
Greg smiled and watched as Grissom walked out of the lab.
********************
“Hey Sara.”
“Nick.”
Nick walked beside her and showed her a paper.
“After you left, I lifted some prints off of the gun. Guess who I got?” he asked.
“Who?” Sara asked, looking at Nick.
“The husbands, which turns out to be Gil and Cath’s vic.”
“So you think the husband shot her, and she shot him back?”
“Maybe, explains the one gun.”
*re-enaction*
Woman screaming as man rapes her. She hits him and pushes him off her. He gets angry and grabs her neck. She gasps for breath and finally manages to push him off again. This time he pulls out a gun and shoots. Woman screams again and knocks the gun outta his hand. She grabs the gun and shoots twice.
*end*
“But how did the guy end up in the river?” Nick asked.
“I don’t know. Might have been another person. Evidence will say.” Sara said.
Nick smiled. “You’re turning more into Grissom everyday. I’ll see you later.” he said, leaving her at the door of the lounge.
“Hey Cath,” Sara said, walking into the lounge. She went to the coffee-pot and poured herself a cup.
“Oh hey Sara. So I heard that there might be a connection between our vics.” Catherine said, putting down the papers she was reading.
“Yeah. Nick said that he had gotten prints off the gun. One set was our vic, the other set yours.”
Catherine looked at her papers again. “Carter Davis. You have a name for your vic yet?”
“Nick’s workin’ on it.”
Nick walked in and handed Sara a paper. “There’s our vic. Warrick and I are going to the autopsy. You wanna come?” he asked.
“No, Catherine and I were just talking about the case.” she said.
“Okay, but you know where to find us.” he said, walking off.
Catherine smiled and Sara looked at her. “What?”
“Nothing,” Catherine said. “What’s the name?”
Sara looked at the paper. “Cheyenne Davis. Husband- Carter Davis, deceased.”
They looked at each other.
“Let’s go pay the Davis family a little visit.” Catherine said.
********************
“What do you have, Al?” Warrick asked, walking into the morgue with Nick right behind him.
“Well,” he said, pulling back the cover. “Two bullet holes in lower abdomen, causing downward abrasions. Abrasions around the neck, possibly trying to suffocate her. When she first came in, the body was drenched in sweat.”
“Yeah, the man was probably trying to rape her. We found her in her underclothes.” Nick said.
“What about the bruises?” Warrick asked. “Post- mordom?”
“Most likely.” Al answered.
Nick bent over the body and pulled out a pair of tweezers from his lab coat.
“What’d you find?” Warrick asked.
“I don’t know, looks like a piece of cloth or something.” Nick said. He pulled out an envelope and placed the cloth in it. “I’ll take it to Greg.”
********************
“Hey Grissom!”
Grissom looked up from the paperwork he was doing in his office.
“Yes?”
“What was your vic wearing when you found him in the creek? And what size shoe?” Nick said, coming into the office.
Grissom looked at his file and took off his glasses. “Regular jeans, white undershirt. Shoe size, 8.”
“Thanks, Griss.” Nick said, walking out of his office. “Greg! Please tell me you have something that can place the husband at the scene.” He walked into the lab and stood behind Greg.
“Well, then you’re gonna love me.” he said, handing him a piece of paper. “That fiber you gave to me, consistent to the shirt fibers I got from his clothes.”
“And the prints on the gun. It definitely places him at the scene. Thanks Greggo!” Nick said.
He jogged down the hallway and turned into one of the testing rooms. “Warrick, I got it!”
********************
Catherine knocked on the door and waited for someone to open it. The door opened and a man in his mid-thirties came into view.
“How can I help you?” he asked.
“Catherine Willows, Sara Sidle. We’re with the Las Vegas Crime Lab, on case with the Davis’.” Catherine said.
“Oh yeah, come in.” he said. He showed them to the living room. “I’m Brandon Davis, Carter’s brother.”
“Brandon, you know that your brothers prints’ were on the gun that Sara found at your sister-in-law’s crime scene. We have a theory that he was there and shot her, and she shot back.”
“What? He couldn’t have.” Brandon said.
“We also know that Carter, or Cheyenne, couldn’t have dragged Mr. Davis. There had to be another person at that crime scene. Would you be able to tell us who it was?” Sara said.
“I don’t know. I wasn’t with them last night.” he said.
“Mr. Davis, can I see your fingernails?” Sara asked.
Brandon looked at her and sighed. “Yeah, sure.” He held up his hands and Sara went over to him. She took out a pair of tweezers and pulled a white fiber from under one of his nails.
“That’s probably from one of my shirts.” Brandon said.
“You’ll be hearing from us.” Catherine said, getting up.
********************
“Greg! Fiber from Mr. Davis’ nails?” Sara said, walking into the lab.
“Consistent with the fibers from Carter’s shirt.” he said, handing her a paper.
“Catherine, it’s him, we got him.” Sara said, walking into Grissom’s office where he and Catherine were talking.
Thirty minutes later, Catherine and Sara showed up with two cops at Brandon Davis’ house.
“Mr. Davis, may we talk to you again?” Sara said after Brandon opened the door.
“Yeah, close the door behind you.” he said, stepping back.
“The fiber Sara pulled from your nails is consistent with the shirt that Carter was wearing the night he died. You care to explain?” Catherine said.
Brandon sighed and put his hand to his face. “I was there last night. Cheyenne and Carter were having a fight, and I tried to break them up. He had her by the neck and to try to push him off her, I grabbed Carter by his neck. He got angry at me, and fired a gun. The bullets missed, hitting Cheyenne instead. I looked at him, took the gun from his hands and shot. I dragged him into a nearby creek and undressed Cheyenne to make it look like a rape. After that, I ran.”
“You just confessed to murder, you know that Mr. Davis?” Sara asked.
“I know.” he said.
“Officers.”
********************
“Sara, Catherine, good job on the case.” Warrick said.
Sara smiled and sat down next to Nick.
“We should go out, celebrate.” he said.
“Good idea Nick. I could use a drink.” Cath said.
“I’ll get my coat.”
