Chapter One: Wish it was Friday
Sara alarm clock start buzzes in her ears again, she hits the alarm clock snoozes buttoning for the fifth time in a roll. She knows if she does not get up soon she is going to be late for work, but does not care. She lays in bed for another five minutes to getting out of bed. She pulls on a pair of jeans and rubs some deodorant on her underarms then pulls a T-shirt on over her head. She then stumbles out of her bedroom and into the bathroom. Once in the bathroom she slow brush her hair and then pulls it into a ponytail. Sarah gets her toothbrush out and put some toothpaste on it then brush her tooth. When she finishes in the bathroom she walks over to the window and looks outside and sees that it pouring rain. As she looking out the window, she wishes today was her day off and not Friday. She grabs her purse and keys and heads out to her car and leaves for work.
Sarah pulls her car into the park lot of the crime lab right as a crime lab SUV with Warrick in the drive seat pulls out. She see that Warrick is alone which means it a busy night and she is twenty minutes late for work on Monday, December 1, 2003. She parks her car and heads into the crime lab. The first place she heads to is the break room to see if Gil Grissom was still in there, but the one in the break room was Greg. He had just finish making a pot of his Blue Hawaii coffee.

Sara: Yo, Greg be a doll and pour me a cup of coffee?
Greg: Sure Sara, but I put it in to a cup with a lid because Grissom looking for you.
Sarah: That fine Greg.

Greg pours Sara a cup of coffee and puts the lid on the cup. He has just hand Sara the cup when Grissom walks into the break room and taps Sara on the shoulder. She turns around and looks at Gil Grissom in the eyes.

Gil: Sara you are over twenty minutes late for work, why are you late?
Sara: I’m so sorry Grissom . I over sleep it won’t happen again.
Gil: It better not. Nick show you come into the lab, you and Nick are work on a 420- homicide At the Palms. Nick meet you out at the SUV. I have to go meet Warrick at the crime scene we are work on together.
Sara: Ok, Grissom.
Gil: I also need you cases paperwork by the end of shift see that you case paperwork is also late they were due at the end of last Friday shift.
Sara: Sorry, I have them to you by the end of shift tomorrow morning.

As she walks towards the locker room to grab her crime scene kit and a jacket out of her locker. She thinks to herself great tonight is going to suck and I am getting a really bad headache too.

Chapter Two: The never ended shift part one
Sara gets to the locker room and set her cup of coffee down on the bench and unlock her locker. She set her purse down inside of her locker and starts looking through it to find some Tylenol, but does not have any. Just then Catherine comes into the locker room and is all smile as she gets into her locker.

Catherine: Sara, you need to get a move on Nick is wait for you!
Sara: Cath. Do you have any extra strength Tylenol, because I have a splitting headache?
Catherine: Sure Sara here you go. ( Hands Sara the Tylenol.) And thanks again for picking up Lindsey from school Wednesday when she had to go home sick. Then watching her on Thursday and Friday seen that I had to testify in court on cases on work on all three days.
Sara: (Swallows the Tylenol) No problem Cath. We just watch tv and Lindsey and I take each take parts of Romeo and Joliet and read out loud the sections she had to read for English class. She also sleep some. How Lindsey feeling?
Catherine: A lot better. I need to get going to P.D. to interview the rapist from the case we work on this weekend together.
Sara: I want to do that Cath!
Catherine: If you did not run late maybe Grissom would of let you do the interview.
Sara: Great he making me star a new case as punishment for being late. He knows I hate starting new cases before I close the one I’m work on.

With that Catherine walks out of the locker room Sara puts her black forensic jacket on. She then grabs her purse, kit and coffee. She then heads outside to meet Nick in the park lot. When Nick sees Sara’s walk towards the SUV, he jumps out of the SUV and takes her and puts it in the backseat, while Nick doing this Sara gets into the passenger seat and puts her seatbelt on. Nick close the backseat door and walks over to the drive seat. As he get behind the wheel he thinks Sara’s never lets anyone else drive, she had being a passenger, this is so unlike her . Nick starts the SUV up and back out of the park space. Then pulls out of the park lot. Then heads towards the palms.

Nick: Sara, you know Brass is going to be so mad at the two of us for taking so long to get to the crime scene. I don’t want to sound like I’m lectures’ you, but it not very professions of you to run twenty minutes late for work. Plus by run late you have given the killer more time to get out of town.
Sara: Nick, don’t even think of about continue this speech I’m in no mood to hear it. Grissom already told me not to me late again and yelling at me for not getting my cases paperwork in at the end of shift Friday.
Nick: Sara, are you ok, you keep rubbing your head?
Sara: I just have a headache, but I the Tylenol I take should kick in soon and I will be fine. But can we not talk the rest of the way to the crime scene?
Nick: Yeah, that fine Sara.
Neither Nick nor Sara talks the rest of the way to the crime scene. Sara leans her seat back and closes her eyes for the rest of the ride. Nick pulls the SUV into the park lot of the Palms and parks behind Jim Brass Car. The first thing Sara sees when she opens her eyes is Jim Brass stare at her through the passenger window of the SUV.

Chapter Three: The never ended shift part two
Sara turns her head towards Nick and at the sometime reaches into the backseat and grabs her kit. At the sometime Jim Brass opens up the passenger door. Sara and Nick knows by the look on Brass face he is mad at them for being late.

Nick: I was I time for work. It all Sara faulted we take so long to get here. She was twenty minutes late for work.
Sara: You could of went on ahead without me, I could of meet you at the soon Nick.
Jim: Sara you a crime scene investigate. When you are late for work not only does it make you look bad, it makes the LVPD and Las Vegas crime lab look bad too. I never would of thought I’ll have to give you a speech about run on time for work seeing that your job is your life. When i called Grissom to see what was take you and Nick so long to get here and Grissom told me you that you oversleep, that why you are late. It made me very mad at you Sara, because oversleep is very un-profession. Never run late again.
Sara: Fine, I won’t Brass.

With that Sara gets out of the SUV and so does Nick. The two of them fellow Brass up to the penthouse one. Jim Brass opens up the penthouse door and both Sara and Nick takes a look around the scene . The first thing Sara sees is a scary little girl of about eight years old set in the corner with her knees up to her chest and her arms wrap around them and she is rocking back and forth.

Sara: Brass did the girl see what happened?
Jim: Yeah, Bethany show and hear her father argument and beat her mom up before shoot five time in the heart.
Sara: I’m going to go try and see if I can get Bethany to talk to me. Nick will you start process the scene?
Nick: Sure

Sara walks over to were Bethany is setting and set down next to her on the floor. Bethany turns her head and looks over at the young brown hair women that set down next to her.

Bethany: What your name?
Sarah: My name is Sara Sidle I work for the Las Vegas crime lab. How about the two of us go outside and talk.
Bethany: Ok, Sara

Sara and Bethany both stand up and heads out of the penthouse. The two of them take the elevator to the first floor and the two of them go outside and set down on the bench in front of the palms. Both of them stare at the night time skyline of Las Vegas.

Sara: Bethany, I need you to tell me everything you show and hear tonight and I’m going to write down what you tell me.
Bethany: I was supposed to be in bed, but I head to use the bathroom so I get out of bed and walkout of my room. I had just reaches the bathroom door when I hear and show my mom and dad fight again.
Sara: What were their fighting about?
Bethany: everything, I’ll start from the first thing, which was my mom went off at my dad for drinking to much again. My dad then call my mom a lie and throw her up against the wall and start kick her several time before pull out his gun. My mom started yell at him to put the gun away, but he, but he would not listen to her and shoot her five times . I stay where I was till I know he was gone and not come back. I start to run over to her, but stops when on seen the huge pool of blood. I called 911 myself. Then went and set down in the corner where you find me.
Sara: You did the right thing by calling 911. Bethany how old are you?
Bethany: I turn nine years old today.

Just then the social work walks up to Bethany and Sara. She stops and kneels down in front of Bethany.

Mrs. Hope: Hi Bethany, I am Mrs. Hope I am going to take you, to where you be staying to I can get a hold of you mom sister Amy Yark. Are you done talking to Bethany Miss. Sidle?
Sara: Yeah
Mrs. Hope: Ok, let fo Bethany.
Bethany: (Tears running down her face) Ok, Nice to meet you Sara Sidle. You are going to find my dad and put him in jail for killing my mom right?
Sara: Ye Bethany
Bethany: Good

Bethany takes Mrs. Hope hand and the two of them walk over to Mrs. Hopes Suv. Sara set on the bench and watches Mrs. Hope open up backseat door of her SUV for Bethany and then watches Mrs. Hope walk get into the diver seat. Just as she thinking about getting up and head back to help Nick process the scene she start having menstrual cramps. She thinks to herself great when just when I thought tonight could not get any worst. Just then she sees David walk towards the entrance. She stands up and walks over to him.

David: Hi Sara
Sara: Hi David, You head up to the crime scene?
David: Yeah
Sara: Can you tell Nick I will be up to help him up to help him in fifteen to twenty minutes I have to go down the street to the drug store and pick up some tampon and pad. I just store my period.
David: No problem Sara.

Sara goes and gets into the SUV and drives down the street to the drug store and David heads up to the penthouse one, where the crime happened at. Nick looks up and sees David walking into the main room. But Sara has not come back yet and he know that Mrs. Hope has already left with Bethany.

Nick: David, have you seen Sara around?
David: Yeah, I have she told me to let you know she be up to help you in fifteen to twenty minutes she had to run down the street to the drug store to buy some tampon and pad really fast. Her monthly start right as she finishes interview Bethany.
Nick: Thanks for let me know.

David kneels down next to the victim body and take it temperature.

Nick: How long has she been dead for?
David: For two and half hours.
Nick: Thanks David, I already take the picture of her at the scene so you can take the body back to the lab. Tell Dr. Robbins to go head and collect the evidence off the body and to remove the bullet and see them to the departments in the lab they need to go to.
David: Ok, I let Dr. Robbins know that Nick.

Meanwhile, Sara has finish buy the tampon and pad and has use the restroom at the store. She is now on her way to the palms to help Nick finish process the crime scene. Even through she feels awful. The Tylenol has not help her headache and she now has really bad cramps now too. Could tonight get any worst?

Chapter Four: Will This Shift Every Ended
Sara gets back to the palms and head straight up to the penthouse one. Brass gives her an evil look as soon as she walks through the door.

Sara: What Brass?
Jim: Sara, If you where due to start your monthly you should of had tampons and pads in your purse, so you would not have to run to the store to buy them when you are supposed to be work a crime scene!
Sara: Too start with I start a week early which never has happened before, so I had no reason to think I would need any tampons or Pads Brass!
Jim: Fine, but get to work now!
Sara: Fine
Sara puts on a pair of latex gloves and gets to work dusty for fingerprints, because Nick’s has not got a chance to dust for print yet. Once she was done dust for print. She help Nick search for the gun to see if Mr. Maybell left it any where in the penthouse, but after two and half hours, but both Sara and Nick come up empty hand. So Nick’s and Sara put the evidence and put it into evidence bags. Nick’s head down to the SUV and puts the evidence into the back of the SUV. While, Sara’s seal the door of the penthouse up and puts a label on the door that says crime scenes do not entry. She walks towards the elevator and push the button for the main floor.
When Nick and Sara get back to the lab their check the evidence into the evidence room. Nick takes the trace evidences to the trace lab and Sara takes the DNA evidences to the DNA lab for Greg to run. Sara does not stay around to talk to Greg she just hands him the evidence that needs run. She then walks out of the DNA lab and heads to the break room. She gets to the break room and gets a cup of coffee, then takes a set at the table and starts working on her late cases paperwork. Sara lost track of the time while she working on her case paperwork . She does not even hear Nick, Greg or Mia come into the break room and walk up next to her.

Nick: Sara, both Greg and Mia have some results for us.
Sara: (Looks up.) Greg what do you have for us?
Greg: The blood swabs you give me to run against a sample of the victim blood, all the twenty swabs that you give me matches Mrs. Maybell the victim .
Sara: Anything else for us Greg?
Greg: No, that it.
Nick: Mia, what do you have for us?
Mia: The black stuff in the victim right hand was black glass. It matches the wine bottle that also black glass. That all I have for the two of us.
Sara and Nick: Thanks Mia and Greg.

Just then Bobby Dawson walks into the break room and over to Sara, Nick, Greg and Mia.

Bobby: The gun that Mr. Maybell used was a Sig 9mm.
Sara: Thanks Bobby.
Bobby: I have to get back to work I see y’all around.

With that Greg, Mia and Bobby walk out of the break room and heads back to their labs.


Sara: Nick has Brass or patrol office had any luck finding Mr. Maybell?
Nick: No, it like he vanishes into thin air. I’m head over to the print lab now.
Sara: Ok, Nick

Sara looks at her watch and sees that there is only an hour left of the shift and gets back to work on the cases paperwork she needs to get done before the end of shift. She just sign her name on the last form when Gil, Ecklie and Sofia Curtis walk into the break room and walk over to her.

Gil: Is you cases paperwork done?
Sara: Yeah, here Grissom
Gil: (Takes the paperwork from Sara.) Sara you are pull a double shift today you are work with Sofia on a 420-Homicide/ 426-Sexual Assault.
Sara: What the victim name or names?
Ecklie: Amy York was killed and a Bethany Maybell was raped. Sara and Sofia I need both of you to the crime scene. Then I need Sara to take Bethany to the hospital to have SAFE kit done. A social work going to meet you at the hospital. Take two SUV and Sara after you have the SAFE kit, the clothing Bethany was wear and the photos of any bruise head back to the scene and help Sofia process it.
Sara: Will do, Ecklie.

Sara and Sofia go and grab their kits then head out to the SUV. Sara and Sofia both get into one and head out to the crime scene at Amy York house. As Sara drive to the scene all she could think about was did Mr. Maybell go over to Miss York house and shoot her then sexual assert his own daughter, before take off. She was not up to work another shift, but when she hear Bethany name, Sara knew she need to be there for Bethany and to put her dad behind bars for committing these three crimes. Sara pull the SUV she drive into the Miss. York drive way behind Sofia. Sara put the SUV into park. She then turns the SUV off. She gets out of the SUV and start walk towards Bethany who is setting on the porch steps stare at the road. She sees Bethany wear a shirt that at lest a 2-x in women as a night shirt and that there are bruise up and down her arms and legs. Sofia walks up to Sara.

Sofia: The girl so young and to lose her mom last night. Then to see her aunt kill the next morning by her father and then he rapes her. No nine-year-old should have to go through that.
Sarah: I know and yesterday was her ninth birthday.
Sofia: That a awful thing to have to see on your birthday. Do you want me to take Bethany to the hospital.
Sara: No, I get it beside Bethany already meet me last night.

Detective Lockwood walks over to Sara and Sofia and both of them can tell by the look on his face this case is make him sad and is hard on him, because his daughter turn nine yesterday too.

Detective Lockwood: Bethany come here.

Bethany runs over to Sara and stops in front of her. Sara looks at Bethany and sees she has being crying. Sara knows and understands what Bethany just went through and how she is feeling. Bethany takes Sara left hand.

Sara: You are come with me. I have to take you to the hospital to have a nurse do a SAFE kit.
Bethany: What that?
Sara: A nurse is going to colleted the evidence you father left behind on your private parts and take photos of any bruise you have.
Bethany: That what I thought.

The ride to North Las Vegas hospital was quiet Sara nor Bethany talked the whole drive. Bethany leans her head up against the passenger side window. She close her eyes and falls to sleep and start dreaming about what her father did to her. Sara was think about her ninth birthday and how her father miss her birthday party and when he come home that night he was drunk and in a bad mood. He open up Sara bedroom door and walks over to Sara bed and pull his pants off then make Sara have sex with him. She has just pull into the hospital ER park lot when Bethany screaming make Sara stop think about her childhood. She parks the SUV and opens up the backseat passenger door on the drive side and take a set next to Bethany. And lightly shakes her.

Sara: Bethany, it me Sara wake up you are safe now. Your dad can’t hurt you when you are with me.
Bethany: Sara, it was so scary. Why would my dad do that to me? Doesn’t he love me?
Sara: I don’t know Bethany? I don’t think men that rape girls and women are there in the head. I’m sure your dad love you though.
Bethany: Let go get this over with Sara.
Sara: Ok

Sara and Bethany get out of the SUV and head into the ER. Both of them walk up to the check in desk and Sara show the nurse her Las Vegas crime lab I.D.

Nurse Peach: Yes Miss Sidle, what can I do for you today?
Sara: I need a nurse to do a SAFE kit and take photos of any bruise on her body.
Nurse Peach: Ok, go take a set in the ER wait room and I will go get a examine room ready.
Sara: Ok

Chapter Five: A break in the Maybell case
Sara and Bethany has only been wait for two minutes when Nurse Peach, walks over to the couch that the two of them are setting on.

Nurse Peach: Ok, Bethany I am going to take you back to examine room number three and have you put on a hospital gown. Miss. Sidle do you want me to put her nightshirt in a bag for you?
Sara: Yes please.
Bethany: Can Sara come back with me?
Nurse Peach: No, but as soon as I’m done I come out here and let her know she can come back and set with you till the social gets here, which could be a while see that there is a problem at the social service build.
Sara: Ok, I see you when the nurse is done with takes the pictures of the bruise and does the SAFE kit.
Bethany: Ok see you in a little bit Sara.

Sarah watch Bethany and Nurse Peach go through the doors that separate the ER wait room from the ER. She then lays down on the couch she is setting on and close her eyes and tries to forget about the fact she still has a splitting headache. Just then her cellphone starts ringing. Sara grabs her cellphone off the hook on her hip and flips it open, but does not set up or open her eyes .

Sara: Sidle here
Detective Lockwood: Sara, Sofia is going to come pick up the SAFE Kit, film and the girl nightshirt. I need you to stay with Bethany at the hospital, because Mr. Maybell has the social service office hold hostage.
Sara: That not good.
Detective Lockwood: The S.W.A.T. unit is try to talk him down, but he has yet to even pick up the phone. I will call you when I have more info for you.
Sara: Ok, I’ll talk to you then.

Sara flips her cellphone closes and put back on the cellphone hook on her hip. She is not happy that Mr. Maybell has the social service office hostage, but at lest S.W.A.T. and police have him corner. Sarah falls to sleep about five minutes after she hangs up from talk to Lockwood, So she does not hear nurse Peach or Sofia when they both walk in front of the couch she is laying on. Sofia lightly shakes Sara.

Nurse Peach: Sara I have the SAFE kit, the film and the girl bag nightshirt.
Sara: Hand them to Sofia she is taken them back to the lab.
Nurse Peach: Bethany went for you to come back, she want you in the room when DR. Shape come to look at her left wrist and right ankle, because they are both really painful and she start crying when I touch her left wrist or right ankle.

Nurse Peach show Sara to the room Bethany is in then goes back to work. When Sara walks into the room she sees that Bethany has went to sleep so she takes a set in the chair next to the hospital bed. She takes a closes look at the girls left wrist and right ankle and see that both of them are really swollen. Dr. Shape comes into the room with a portable X-ray machine and takes films of Bethany Left wrist and right ankle. When he finishes takes the films he takes the portable X-ray machine out of the room and goes to have the x-ray developed. After a half hour Dr. Shape comes back into the room with supplies to casted Bethany left wrist and right ankle. Sara wakes Bethany up and the first thing Bethany does is smile really big at Sara, she then see the doctor is in the room.

Dr. Shape: Bethany, What color of casted do you want?
Bethany: Do you have Neon Pink and Neon purple?
Dr. Shape: Yes I do.
Bethany: I want Neon pink for the wrist casted and neon purple for the ankle casted.
Dr. Shape: Ok, I am going to casted the ankle first because it takes long to dry, then I casted your wrist. Its going to hurt, so Sara will you hold her right hand and talk as I put the cast on?
Sara: Sure.

It take Dr. Shape a hour to put the casted on Bethany ankle and a half hour to casted her wrist. Just after the doctor leave the room a social work walk into the room. Sara is surprise to sees it her best friend from elementary school through high school Katie.

Katie: Sara Sidle can I talk with you out in the hallway.
Sara: Sure

Sara and Katie walk out into the hallway and Sara close the door behind.

Katie: Nice to see you again Sara, how have you been?
Sarah: Really good. How have you been doing? I see you are marry now and pregnant.
Katie: I doing great, yeah I have twin girls I just end my forth month. I just move to Las Vegas with my husband Ross Jade who get a Job as chief of surgery in this hospital.
Sara: So I take Mr. Maybell behind bars now?
Katie: No, Brass shoot and kill him after he pulled a gun out and killed S.W.A.T. Rob Frog. So has Bethany?
Sara: Ok for what she been through since last night. She has been raped by her father and he break her left wrist and right ankle.
Katie: Can you take Bethany in as a fostered child?
Sara: Won’t the fact I work night be a problem?
Katie: No, I already talk to your co-work Catherine Willows and she tell me her mom would be happy to watch Bethany when you are at work.
Sara: Sure I’ll be her fostered parent.
Katie: Let go talk to Bethany then and have her change into the clothing i bring her.

To Sara and Katie surprise Bethany take the news of her father death really well. Bethany was also happy that she gets to live with Sara, since she does not have any other family member to raise her. She also knows she be save live with Sara. After the Dr. Shape release Bethany. The two of them swing by the crime Lab so Sara can clock out. Then they go out for a late lunch.

Chapter Six: A Fresh start for Bethany
Sarah and Bethany go to the mall after they had lunch. When they first get to the mall Sara goes and gets a wheelchair for Bethany to use. Bethany set down in the wheelchair and Sara start push Bethany through the mall.

Sara: Where do you want to go first?
Bethany: Jcpenney so I can buy bedding set and other bedroom items. Sara what size is the bed I will be sleep on?
Sara: A full size bed.

When they get into Jcpenney, Once they get into the store Sara gets one of the shopping carted that hooks onto the front of wheelchairs. Sara hooks it up to the wheelchair Bethany using. The first place the two of them go and look at is the bed and bath department. Bethany spots a set of three hanging butterflies and butterflies wall tattoos, so she hands the wall tattoos and hooking butterfly sets to Sara who put them into the shopping carted. The butterflies in both set are purple, pink and light blue. Bethany and Sara then both spot a bed set that would go great with it. It was called Bye- Bye Butterfly. The bed set light lavender with butterflies on the blanket, sheets and pillow cases. The two of them then go and look at bedroom accessories. Bethany take one of the Hanging Shade Lamps with Eyelash Fringes off the shelves and show it to Sara.

Sara: What that lamp Bethany?
Bethany: Yeah, I like how the shade is off-white but it has pink beads on the fringe.

Sarah put the lamp into the carted next to the bed set and the butterflies wall tattoos and wall hooks. Bethany then points to some Tassel Floor Cushion and Sara grabs a pink, purple, blue and black one and puts them into the carted. As Sara is put, the floor cushion into the carted. Bethany grabs a light blue, purple and pink Shaggy Chic Accent Pillows and reaches up and over and puts them into the carted. Sara walks up to Bethany and shows her some purple Mod Squad Window Coverings.

Sarah: Beth how about these for your bedroom window?
Bethany: Yeah I love them.

Sara put then into the carted and Sara starts push Bethany down the row again, and they look at more stuff. Bethany then gets Patrice Lamp in purple to put on white Abbigail Nightstand that Sara just put into the carted. Bethany and Sara pick the Nightstand because it has a drawer. Sara also had work from the store put the match Abbigail Dresser on the rack of the carted.

Sara: Bethany let get you a new bed frame, the mattress is new but the bed frame is really old and fall apart.
Bethany: Ok, let go look at the bed frame now.

Bethany finds and hardboard and footboard set called Bethany Bedroom design to looks like a tulip on the inside of the frames. The two of them then head over to the clothing. Bethany picks out several outfits to try and puts her favorite ones into the carted when she comes out of the fit room. Then the two of them go to the check out counter and pay for everything. The two of then go to homedepot and Bought a White Computer Desk that on sale for twenty-three dollars for Bethany room. Sara also picks up lavender paint for the walls of Bethany bedroom.
When they get back to Sara apartment the two of them get out of Sara car. Bethany grabs couple of the light bags from Jcpenney and Sara gabs and few with each hand. They take the elevator up to the fifth floor and Sara leads Bethany to apartment number 504. Sara opens the door and set the bags she carrying down at the sometime her boxer Ali jumps off the couch and comes run towards the two of them. Bethany smiles as the mostly brown dog with a white spot on her chest and black on her nose stop in front of her and wiggle her tiny tail.

Bethany: What the dogs name?
Sara: Her name is Ali, how about the two of you get to know eachother while I go and bring the rest of the stuff will bought up.
Bethany: Ok, Sara.

Sara goes back down stair and start get the rest of the thing out of her car. At the sometime Catherine pulls up into the park spot next to her. Catherine, twelve- year-old Lindsey and Lily Flynn ( Catherine mom) gets out of the car and walks over to Sara and each grab some of bags out of Sara car. Sara and Catherine put, the nightstand box on top the dresser box, which is set on top of the desk box. The two of them each take a end of the long desk box and carry inside. Lindsey and lily grab the rest of the bags. Lindsey opens Sara apartment door and Catherine and Sara walks into Sara apartment and set the three boxes down. Sara sees she sees Ali lay on her back and Bethany rub Ali stomach and she is wiggling her tiny tail none stop. Sara grabs her camera and takes a picture of the two of them.

Bethany: Sara who are these three ladies and girl?
Sara: Lindsey is the pre-teen girl that just set down next to you. Lindsey mom Catherine was the one help me carry your desk, Dress and nightstand in and the old lady Is Lindsey grandmother Lily. Catherine, Lindsey and Lily this is Bethany, my fostered daughter.
Bethany: Lily, the lady who watch me when you are at work right?
Sara: Yeah, I’m going to changes into some old cloth then the five of us are going to start you bedroom.
Catherine: The four of us will go get started on the bedroom.
Sara: Ok

As Sara change Lindsey, and Bethany take apart the old bed frame. Lily pulls the mattress out of the room and set up against the living room wall, while Catherine wipes Bethany, bedroom walls off to get them ready to be paint. Sara come into Bethany bedroom carry the paint and paint supply. Bethany, Lindsey, catherine and Lily looks at Sara and sees she change into a pair of old jeans that had holes in both knees and a old black tank top. Sara and Catherine paint the bedroom walls lavender, while Lindsey, Lily and Bethany works on put the desk, Nightstand and dresser together. Catherine and Sara had just finish paint the room when it was time for them to get ready for work. Sara goes into her bedroom and changes and Catherine goes into the bathroom to get ready for work.

Chapter Seven: (part one) First real tests as a fostered mom!
Sara’s alarm clock buzzes in her ears. Letting her know it time to get up and met Bethany at the door of the apartment build so the bus drive will let her off the school bus. It is December17, 2003 and Bethany has been live with Sara for two whole weeks as of yesterday. Both of them are getting along great and Bethany has made several new friends at Vegas Verdes elementary school and is already at the top of her three-grade class. She gets up and grabs her keys and head outsides to meet Bethany. When she gets outsides she is not surprise to see its raining again, seeing that it been run at lest one a day all month. Sara only been outside for five minutes and is already soak wet and shivering seeing that its only forty-six degrees outside. The bus pulls up in front of the build at four p.m. Normal Bethany is the first one to get off the bus, but today the other six children that live in the apartment complex come run off the bus first. And into the three different builds. Sara walks up to the bus door when everyone else has got off and Bethany still has not got off the bus. The Bus drive looks at Sara and points to the seat behind her. Sara steps onto the bus and sees Bethany has just start to pull the water proof Cast Covers over her right ankle. Sara kneels down and helps with the leg one so she can get the Cast Covers on her left wrist.

Sara: Why did you not leave them on when you get onto the bus?
Bethany: It was not raining when school ended.
Sara: Oh, let get off the bus so the bus driver can drop off the rest of the children.
Bethany: Ok

As Sara talk to the Bus drive Bethany walks off the bus and starts walking towards the doors of the build, they live in.

Annie (bus drive) Miss. Sidle Just to let you know Bethany fall asleep on the bus rides. Bethany, only wake up when Cassie, the girl that lives in the apartment three door down from the two of you wake her up when I pull into the park lot.
Sara: Thanks for let me knew Annie.
Annie: Also Bethany teacher Miss. Korn asks me to tell you Bethany act sluggish all day, and the lunch lady write Miss. Korn a note to told her Bethany hardly touches her lunch before she gets up and throws it out. The teachers also get a note from the recess lady that said Bethany lay down on a bench and take a nap instead of play with her friends.
Sara: Anything else I should know?
Annie: No, That all I know.

Sara walks off the bus and met Bethany at the door to the build they live in and unlocks it so she can go inside and out of the pouring rain. Bethany does not say anything to Sara on the way up to the fifth floor or even once they get into the place. Bethany just heads start for her bedroom with Ali right behead her. When both of them was in her bedroom she closed the bedroom door. Then take off the cast covers and changes into some dry PJ top and bottoms not care that tonight the night Lily watchers her and Lindsey’s at Catherine house. Sara knocks on Bethany’s bedroom door, when Bethany does not answers her back. She open up Bethany door and looks into see Bethany curl up on her bed and her left wrist is rest on Ali back.

Sara: Bethany, What do you want for dinner tonight?
Bethany: Go away
Sara: Come on Bethany you need to eat some dinner, It will give you energy so you can finish the school you did not get done at school.
Bethany: Fine, How about cream of potato soup.
Sara: Ok, Bethany
Bethany: Can I just lay here and rest to dinner ready?
Sara: Yeah

With that Sara close Bethany door and goes into the kitchen and get out two cans of cream of potato soup. She open the cans and pours then into the soup pan then puts and can of water in the pan and stir the water so it mixes into the soup, as it slow heats up.

Chapter Eight: (Part two) First real tests as a fostered mom!
When the soup is ready Sara, walks over to Bethany’s bedroom door and knocks. Like early she does not get an answer. So she opens Bethany’s bedroom door and looks inside her room to see her sound a sleep. Sara goes over to the side of Bethany bed and light shakes her.

Sara: Bethany, the soup is done, so you need to get up now.
Bethany: Leave me alone!
Sara: Come on Bethany, you need to eat!
Bethany: Whatever, I’ll be out in a few minutes


Sara walks back out of Bethany room and puts soup into two bowl and set them on the breakfast counter. Meanwhile, in Bethany bedroom she set up in her bed and rubs her eyes, thinking why do I feel so wear out and why am I not hunger, I never loss my appetite, I’m always hunger by this time of day . She stands up and limps towards her bedroom. Sara has just put some spoons next to each bowl at the sometime Bethany comes out of her bedroom. Bethany takes a set in one the stool. Sara set down in the stool next to her and starts eat. She looks over at Bethany five minutes later and sees she only eat a few spoon fulls so far. She looks at Bethany really carefully and sees she look flush, she puts her left hand on Bethany forehead. Sara gets a little worry when she feels that Bethany is run warm. Bethany pulls Sara hand off her forehead.

Bethany:( Voice sound scratchy) Leave me alone, I do not feel like be touch or eaten all I want to do is gone to bed.
Sara: Does you throat hurt, or any other anything else hurt?
Bethany: Yeah, my throat hurts really bed and I’m ache all over.
Sara: I want you to finish eating, then go lay back down.
Bethany: It hurts too much to swallow.
Sara: Ok, go back to your room and lay down, I am going to go get the thermometer out of the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Then I be into took your temperature, and I am going to grab my min meg light and take a look in your throat to.

Bethany just shakes her head yes then slides off the stool and heads back into her bedroom, Ali picks her head up off the living room floor and looks at Sara with her big brown eyes. Sara bent down and pat Ali head on her way to the bathroom.

Sara: (Pat Ali) Go into Bethany bedroom and keep her company.

Ali gets up and runs into Bethany bedroom and hop up onto her bed next to her. Bethany pat the top of the dog head. Sara walks into Bethany bedroom and sits down on the edges of the bed and put the thermometer into Bethany mouth. It beeps thirty seconds later and Sara takes the thermometer out of her mouth and looks at it.

Sara: You have a fever of 101.9 degrees Fahrenheit, Can you open you mouth up so I can look at your throat.
Bethany: ok

Bethany open up her mouth really big and Sara shine her flash light in inside Bethany mouth and looks at her throat. Sara sees that Bethany has swollen tonsils both her throat and tonsils are red. Sara then feels Bethany neck and feels that her lymph are also swollen.

Bethany: What wrong with me, Ah-Choo?
Sara: Your tonsils are swell and red. Your throat is also really red, also you lymph are really swollen. And have cause you have a fever.
Bethany: Coughs, do I have to go over to Lindsey and Catherine house tonight?
Sara: No, I call Nick up and See if he mind work on his day off so I can stay home with you.
Bethany: (Sniffs) Thanks.

Sara stand up and head out of Bethany bedroom and walks into her room and grabs her cellphone and dial nicks number. Meanwhile, at Nicks place his cellphone start ring and hr rolls over in bed thinking who call me it my day off. He reach for his cellphone and looks at the number and sees it Sara cellphone number. He flips the phone open and takes the call.

Nick: Stroke
Sara: Hi, Nick did I waken you?
Nick: Yeah but it ok, what up.
Sara: Can you take my shift tonight, Bethany has a fever of 101.9 and her tonsil are swell also red.
Nick: Is her throat really red too, and does she have swell Lymph?
Sara: Yeah
Nick: Sounds like she has Tonsillitis and Strep throat.
Sara: Yeah that what it looks like, I’m going to see how she feels in the morning and of it still looks like it does tonight I’m going to make her a doctor appointment.
Nick: Yeah, I cover your shift tonight, but you have the week of Christmas off and I am on call that whole and I need to go see my family in Texas will you cover me that week so I can go see my parents?
Sara: Yeah I take you week of been on call.
Nick: Then I cover you shift tonight, tell Bethany I hope she feels better soon.
Sara: I will

Chapter Nine: Should I take Bethany to the Doctor or wait to see if she better in a few days?
Sara is set on the couch in the living room read a book and listens to Bethany coughing in her sleep. She had tries to get Bethany to take some children Tylenol to help reduce the fever and help ease her sore throat, but she would not take any. Sara falls a sleep on the couch read her book and does not wake up the rest of the night. The next morning Bethany comes limp out of her bedroom with Ali right behind her at 8:40 a.m. she limp over to the couch where Sara is sleep and wakes her up by shake her shoulder. Sara set up and looks at Bethany.

Bethany: (Sniffle and sound hoarse) Sara, I miss the school bus can you give me a ride to school?
Sara: Bethany, you sound awful and still looking feverish I think you should stay home from school the rest of this week and I should make you a doctor appointment.
Bethany: But Sara, I have a spell and social study, math today and Friday it’s my class holiday party I cannot miss this week . I feel a lot better and my throat does not hurt anymore.
Sara: No, you can take make up test after winter break.
Bethany: No, my teachers do not give make up tests.
Sara: Fine I let you go to school for your tests today, but as far as Friday goes Bethany, Let wait to sees how you are feeling ok, see that it just a day of partying and no school work at all.
Bethany: Coughs, Ok Sara.
Sara: Give me a second to get changes and I will take you to school.

Two minutes later Bethany setting in the backseat of Sara light-blue Ford Focus on her way to school. Sara pulls up in front of Vegas Verdes elementary school and puts the car in park. And looks through the review mirror at Bethany. She has a feel Bethany was lying to her about feeling better and her throat not hurt her anymore, but did not say anything.

Bethany: Thanks Sara, you get me here right on time. I have to go, school going to start in a minute.
Sara: Ok, Bethany. But if you start to feel really bad just go to the nurse and ask to come home sick and have the nurse call me. I will come pick you up from school.
Bethany: I will be fine Sara, I really do feel better.

With that Sara watches Bethany run toward the school with her long brown hair blowing in the wind behind her as she running. She wishes Bethany would just walk because she not supposed to be run on her break right ankle. Once Bethany made it inside the school Sara pulls out of the school park lot and head to the supermarket. Bethany stops run once inside the school because her ankle has started to hurt really bad from run on it. She limps the rest of the way to her classroom and gets into the room right before the bell rings to start class. She set down in her desk, which is right next to her best friend Cassie. Bethany unzips her book bag and takes out her notebooks and textbooks. She puts the textbook and notebooks she does not need right now in her test and take a piece of paper out of her spelling notebook for the spelling test.

Miss. Burns: Ok I read the word I want you to write on you test paper for me, Here I go. After., other, very, every, your, were, sure, once, busy, little, friend, would, could, should, people.

Bethany finishes her test and turns the paper over and takes out her social study notes and start study for that test while she went for the rest of the class to finish taking their spelling test and is thinking to herself I know I get a 100% on my spelling test I know the words by heart. She pulls a tissue out of her jean pocket. Then blows her nose and at the sometime starts study the notes. Meanwhile, at the supermarket Sara is in the cold medicine ally looking at all the different types of clod medicine there is for children and cough drops. Because she knows that by tonight Bethany is going to feel awful and her throat will be really sore. She puts some Cherry flavor Halls into her basket and continues to look at the other products in that ally. She puts some Robitussin cough, cold and flu into the basket. She then starts shopping for groceries. As she shopping she starts have a flashback to the week before Winter break in 1979. Eight -year- old Sara set at her desk in her third grade classroom. She is trying to stay focuses on write sentences use her spelling words, but her eyes keep close on her. She knows she needs to stay awake she has already been yelled out by her teacher Mrs. Dew several times that day for put her head down on her desk and going to sleep and the lunch lady even gave her a speech about not wasted food after she threw her lunch out without eat any of it, but she did not care. Which is normal not like her to do when she has a lunch to bring to school. She eats so fast she does not even taste it, but today her peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich looks unappetizing. For the first time in her, life she wants the school day to ended so she could go home and go to bed. When the bell to end the day rings at the end of spelling, she throws all her unfinished schoolwork and textbooks into her book bag and runs out to the bus. Once on the bus she sets down in the first seat and closes her eyes and goes to sleep. She knows that she in for a two-hour bus ride before getting home, because she the first person pick up in the morning and the last to be dropped off in the evening. The bus drive pulls up in front of Sara parent’s house and looks through her review mirror when Sara does not get up. She puts the bus in park, she stand up and walks over to Sara. She shakes her lightly on the shoulder. Sara open her eyes and looks around and finds she is on the school bus.

Amy (bus drive): Sara, I’m at you house now so you can get off the bus.
Sara: Ah-Choo, sorry I fall asleep I have been tire all day.
Amy: Its ok Sara, you have a long bus ride. Just head on inside and go to bed early tonight.
Sara: I will thanks.

With that Sara grabs her book bag and stands up. She slower gets off the bus and walks up the sidewalk to the front door of the house. She unlocks the door and heads inside to see her dad passes out on the living room couch and her mom make dinner in the kitchen.

Chapter Ten: Bethany first visit to the school nurse!
Sara takes her jacket off and hangs her jacket on the coat rack, then takes her shoes off. She tiptoes over to the staircase, as not to wake her dad up. She stops and leans up against the wall when she reaches the staircase. She is all congested and is short of breath. After a few second she tiptoe the rest of the way upstairs. She opens her bedroom door and set her book bag in her room. She then slower walks into the bathroom and closes the door behind her . She open the medicine cabinet and pulls out the glass thermometer. She shakes it until it read below 95.9 degrees, then puts the glass thermometer in her mouth and under her tongue . She set down on the edges of the tub. After three minutes she takes the thermometer out of her month and sees she has a fever of 102.9 degrees Fahrenheit. No wonder I feel so exhausts and can’t seem to stay awake. Stands up and clean the thermometer and puts back away, then heads into her bedroom. She closes her bedroom door then changes into her black nightshirt and black shorts. She has just lay down on her bed when someone knocks on her bedroom door.

Sara: Coughs, What?
Mrs. Sidle: It’s time for dinner!
Sara: (Clear her throat) I do not have appetite, and I’m exhaust can I, Ah-Choo, skip dinner to night?
Mrs. Sidle: No, you know your dad rules you have to come to dinner every night in less you have the stomach flu and can’t keep anything down.
Sara: But I do not feel good Mom!
Mrs. Sidle: Sara, you do not want to make you dad mad, you know how he get when he is mad and he already grump.
Sara: ( Started to sound hoarse) Fine, I will be down in a few minutes.
Mrs. Sidle: Ok, baby.

Sara sets up in bed and rubs her eyes before stands up. She slower walks toward her door and opens up. She starts to walk downstairs, but she turns around and walks into the bathroom and grabs a box of tissues from under the sink. She then heads downstairs and walks into the kitchen. She takes a set at the table and set the box of tissue down next to her, she grabs a tissue and blows her nose . No soon then she has set down and started blowing her nose.

Mr. Sidle: Sara do you know who I talk to today at 3: 17p.m. ?
Sara: Coughs, no!
Mr. Sidle: Your Teacher Mrs. Dew, she called and told me that you do not get any schoolwork down today. She also told me that you keep put your head down on your desk and fall to sleep. You know that school is a place to learn not to sleep! After dinner you are to go upstairs and finish all the schoolwork before you can go to bed.
Sara: I do not feel good and I have a fever of 102.9.
Mr. Sidle: I do not care, your teacher also told me that the lunch lady sent her a note say you threw your food out, without even touch it. I’m not made out of money and I do not buy the food for you to take to school then wasted it by throw away. If you are not going to eat your lunch. Don’t take a lunch to school.
Sara: I could not eat the peanut butter and grape jelly, coughs, sandwich my throat hurt too much and the sandwich looked unappetizing.
Mr. Sidle: Stop play with you food and eat you dinner Sara!
Sara: (Crying) I can’t it hurt to swallow

Mrs. Sidle, stands up. She then walks over to her daughter and feels her forehead. She then take Sara right head and Sara grabs the box of tissue with her left hand and the two of them head upstairs to Sara bedroom. Sara set down on her bed and rest her head against the headboard of her bed.

Mrs. Sidle: Baby, what else is wrong beside the fever and not be able to swallow because it hurts too much?
Sara: I am ache all over, my nose is all stuffed up. Mom can you take a look at my throat it’s really bother me a lot?
Mrs. Sidle: Sure Sara.

Sara up her mouth and her mom takes a look inside her mouth and at her daughter throat. She sees that Sara tonsils are swelling and has white spots on them. She then feels her daughter neck to found that her lymph is also swelling.

Sara: What wrong mom?
Mrs. Sidle: Your Tonsils are swelling and have white spots on them and your lymph are also swell.
Sara: Coughs, can I go to bed Mom, I will finish my schoolwork when I feel better?
Mrs. Sidle: Sure, baby, you can go to bed.

Sara lays down and gets under the covers. She close her eyes and falls asleep right away. Her mom walks towards Sara’s bedroom door. Mrs. Sidle, looks at her daughter one last time before leave the room. Mrs. Sidle close her daughter bedroom door behind her and heads back downstairs to deal with her husband. Sara is brought back to present time when a fellow shopper drops a glass jelly jar and it makes a loud creak sound as it hits the floor and breaks. Meanwhile, an hour and half later Bethany has finish take her social study tests and is half way through taking her math test, when she starts having a cough fit. Her teacher Miss. Korn walks over to her and kneels down next to Bethany desks and looks at her with a concern look on her face.

Miss. Korn: Bethany, are you feel ok?
Bethany:( Coughing and voice sounds hoarse.) Yeah, my throat just dry is all, coughs. Can I go get a drink of water, coughing?
Miss. Korn: Sure Bethany.

Bethany stands up and starts coughing again. She slower walks out of the classroom and closes the door behind her. As soon as she is clear of the window that in the door of her classroom. She starts rubbing her throat with her right hand and cover her mouth with her left hand because she is still coughing. She gets to the drinking fountain and takes a long drink of water. Which does make her throat feel a little less sore, but it still hurts. She slower walks back to the classroom and takes a set at her desk and starts take her math test again. It takes her the rest of math class to finish the test. When the bell rings. Bethany gets up with the rest of her class and head to the lunchroom, because it is lunch time. Bethany set down at her normal table she set with Cassie and lays her head down on the table and close her eyes. Cassie came back from buying her lunch and set down next to Bethany, who has started to cough again and is starting to look really flush.

Cassie: Bethany, you not look to good, maybe you should go see the school nurse!
Bethany: (hoarse) I fine Cassie, Ah-Choo

Bethany pulls a tissue out of her jean pocket and starts blowing her nose and Cassie gives a concern look, the rise her hand and the lunch lady walk over to her.

Suzie Green (Lunchroom lady and Cassie mom): Yes Cassie?
Cassie: I think my friend Bethany needs to see the nurse she keep cough and sneeze and her voice sounds really scratchy when she talks and she very flush looking.

Suzie Green takes a close look at Bethany who has lay her head back down on the table and close her eyes again. She see that Bethany does look really flush, so she puts her right hand on Bethany forehead and finds Bethany is burn up.

Suzie Green: Bethany Maybell, I am writing a note for you to go see the nurse.
Bethany: Ah-Choo, I do not need to see the nurse I’m feel fine.
Suzie Green: You are going to go see the nurse you are run a fever.
Bethany: Fine, but I do not know where the nurse station is.
Suzie Green: Cassie will you go with Bethany and shower her where the nurse station is?
Cassie: Sure, Mom.

Cassie and Bethany stand up from the lunch table, Bethany picks up her book bag which she brings with her just incase the lunchroom lady made her go see the nurse. Then Cassie and her walk out of the lunchroom. They walk to the very end of the hallway and turn right then walk to the first hallway in the build and turn left and walk to the very end of the hallway. The two girls walk into the last room on the left-hand side. Cassie looks at Bethany as she hands the nurse the note from the Lunchroom lady had give for the nurse. The nurse takes the note from Bethany and unfolds the piece of paper it write on and starts read the note.

Caisse: I am going to go back to the lunchroom and finish eating my lunch Bethany.
Bethany: (sniffling) Ok

Cassie walks out of the room and Bethany takes a set on one of the recovery couch. The nurse walks over to Bethany and put the ear thermometer in her ears. When it beeps, she takes out of Bethany ear and write down what the thermometer say on the forum she has to fill out that state why the student come to see the nurse.

Nurse Pen: You have a fever of 103.9 Bethany. What other symptoms do you have Bethany?
Bethany: My throat is really sore, stuffed up nose, ache all over and I’m really cold.
Nurse Pen: I need to take a look in you mouth can you open your mouth for me.
Bethany: Sure

Nurse Pen, takes out her penlight and shines the penlight into Bethany mouth and find that her tonsils are swelling and have white spots on them. Her throat is also bright red. Nurse Pen, write down what Bethany throat looks like. She then feels Bethany neck and find her Lymph are swelling too. She notes that on her forum then looks at Bethany.

Bethany: Can I go back to class now Nurse Pen?
Nurse Pen: No, Bethany’s I have to call Sara Sidle and have her come pick you up. You are to sick to be in school.
Bethany: Ok, Can I lay down then?
Nurse Pen: Sure

Bethany lays down on the recover couch and Nurse Pen walks over to her desk and takes a set in her desk chair. She then open up her desk drawer and pulls out the emergency contact forum for Bethany Maybell. She then dials Sara apartment number get the answering machine so she tries Sara cellphone next.

Chapter Eleven: I am taking you to the Doctor Bethany!
Sara had just finish bring all the groceries into the apartment and was starting to put them away when her cellphone starts ringing. She pulls off her hip and sees that it the nurse stations at Bethany school. She flips her cellphone open.

Sarah: Sarah Sidle speck.
Nurse Pen: This Is Nurse Pen from Vegas Verder Elementary Bethany is in my office and has a fever of 103.9 and she also has swell tonsils there are also white spots on then, her throat is bright red and her lymph is swell.
Sara: I be there to get to pick her up in ten minutes.
Nurse Pen: Thanks.

Sarah flips her cellphone closed and put away the ice cream and lunch meat and other freeze and refrigerate Sara then grabs her purse and keys and heads out the door. She runs to her car and gets into her car and drive to the school. On the way to school she calls the doctor Skipnuts and makes Bethany an appointment for twenty minutes from now. She has just hang up for making the appointment when she pulls into the school park lot. She parks her car and runs into the school and to the nurse stations. Sara can hear Bethany coughing and sniffle as she walks into the nurse room. When she walks through the door, she sees Bethany lay on the recovery couch.

Nurse Pen: Miss Sidle?
Sara: Yeah
Bethany:( Very hoarse sounding) I tell Nurse, Ah-Choo, Pen’s I fine and can go back to class.
Sara: You not going back to class, I am taking you to the doctor.

Bethany coughing and sneeze at the sometime at the sometime as Sara sign Bethany out on the sign out sheet on the nurse desk.

Sara: Already Bethany’s we can go now.
Bethany: I really do not need to leave school, Ah-Choo
Sara: No you going to the doctor.
Bethany: Fine

Bethany stands up and grabs her book bag and fellow Sara out off the nurse then out off the school build. The two of them get into Sara car and she drive Bethany to doctor Skipnuts office.

Chapter Twelve: I hate being sick Sara!
Sara and Bethany are setting in Dr. Skipnuts wait room, for the nurse to call Bethany back for her appointment. Bethany’s rest her head on Sara shoulder and her eyes closed. She is trying not to cough because it hurts too much to cough. Sara sees that Bethany is force herself not to cough and hands her a cough drop. Bethany takes it from Sarah. She then unwraps the cough drops and puts the cough drop in her mouth. Sara put her hand on Bethany forehand and feels that Bethany fever has gone up since the school nurse take it. Just then the nurse open the door lead to the examine rooms.

Nurse Lawson: Bethany Maybell.

Bethany and Sara stand up and heads to the door and fellows the nurse. The nurse wight Bethany. She then shower them in to examine room two and has Bethany’s take a set on the examine table. The nurse put the ear thermometer in Bethany ear and waits for it to beep. Nurse Lawson take the thermometer out of Bethany ear when it beeps and write 104.6 down in Bethany file.

Nurse Lawson: So what symptoms do you have?
Bethany: ( Nurse Lawson writes down what Bethany says.) I have a very sore throat, swell tonsil, white spots on my tonsil, coughs, and swell lymph node.
Nurse Lawson: The doctor will be back in a few minutes to have a look at you.

After a few minutes Dr. Skipnuts comes into the room and takes a set on the stool next to Bethany and takes a look at her throat, the feel the lymph nodes in her neck. He then does a fast acting strep test on Bethany. After a few minutes the test comes back.

Dr. Skipnuts: Bethany has a tonsilitis and strep throat . Are you allergic to drugs in the penicillin family?
Bethany: No
Dr. Skipnuts: I am going to write Bethany out prescribe for amoxicillin. You need to take it three times a day for ten days. I want you to get Bethany prescribe filled on you way home and Bethany needs to start taking it right away.
Sara: Ok, Is there anything else we should know?
Dr. Skipnuts: Yeah, Keep her out of school the rest of the week. Strep Throat is very contagious, she will be contagious for the next forty-eight hours, which is when the medicine start working. Make sure that Bethany gets lots of rest and drink lots of fluids.

On the way to the drug store Bethany fall asleep in the backseat of Sara car and Sara let her sleep till she parked the car at the apartment build. Once back inside Bethany take her amoxicillin. She then goes into her bedroom and puts her PJ on then goes back to sleep. Sara has gone into her bedroom and has set down on her bed. She is staring into space and is having a flashback to 1979 and the Tuesday morning the day after she first started feeling sick. She wakes up when her alarm clock goes off in her ear. She set up in bed and start having a coughing fit. She puts her feet over the edge of her bed and thinks to herself. I feel awful, but I need to go to school today. She stands up and puts on a pair of jeans and a tank top because she feels like she is on fire. She grabs her book bag and heads into the bathroom. She brushes her tooth and pulls her hair into a ponytail. Sara then heads downstairs and looks around. She sees that her parents are a sleep so she heads to the bus stop and gets onto the bus and goes to school. Once at school set down at her desk and she pulls her schoolwork out of her book bag and gets to work, but she keeps having to stop to blow her nose and can’t stop coughing. Mrs. Dew walks into the class room and pass out the math test. Sara taking the test from her teaches and starts to take the test but get light head and has to put her head down on the desk. Mrs. Dew walks over to Sara and feels her forehead and feels that Sara is burning up.

Mrs. Dew: I’m sending you to the nurse Sara!
Sara: ( Sounds hoarse) No, I am, Ah-Choo, fine
Mrs. Dew: You are run a fever and are very pale.
Sara: Coughs, Fine

Sara goes to the nurse only to get told her tonsils have white spots on them and are swelling. The school nurse also says her throat is bright red and that her lymph nodes are swelling too. The only new thing she learns is that her fever is no longer 102.9 it has went up to 104.9.

Sara: Can I go back to class now?
Nurse: No, I have to call your mom to come pick you up.
Sara: Fine, I just lay down till she gets here.

Sara lays down on the recovery couch and closes her eyes. The next thing she knows is that the nurse is wakening her up. Sara looks at the clock on the wall and sees she has being sleep in the nurse station all day .

Sara: My mom, never come to pick me up?
Nurse: No, you are going to have to take the bus home.
Sara: Ok.
Nurse: Here your book bag, Mrs. Dew drop it off her doing lunch hour.
Sara: Thanks

Sara stands up and walks outside then gets onto the school bus. The Bus Drive Amy sees Sara and has Sara take a set right behind her. Amy then drops Sara off first. Sara stands up and walks towards the bus door, but stop in front of Amy.

Sara: Thanks for drop me off, Ah-Choo, first today.
Amy: Just feel better Sara.
Sara: Coughs, Thanks bye.

Sara gets off the bus and heads inside to find her mom laying on the living room floor unconscious and can hear her dad in the kitchen. She runs upstairs to her bedroom and closes her bedroom door. She put her PJ back on then gets into bed. She then gets under the cover because she is freezing cold. She felt this way since the school nurse waken her up to get on the bus and go home. Sara is brought back to the present when Bethany coughing and she feel Bethany taping her on the shoulder with her free hand.

Bethany: Sara do you have any cold medicine to relive this cough so I can sleep.
Sara: Sure.

Bethany fellow Sara into the kitchen and Sara give her Robitussin cough, cold and flu. Then both of them go to bed for the night.

Chapter Thirteen: Three days before Christmas 2003
It December 22, 2003 at ten a.m. and Sara is at the mall Christmas shopping for Bethany. Bethany and Lindsey come to the mall with her but the two of them are off shopping. Lindsey shopping for a gift for her mom and of cause Bethany looking for a gift to get Sara and one for Ali the boxes. As Sara looking around Claire, she thinking to herself, I can’t believe how much better Bethany feeling after only being on amoxicillin for three and half days. She never felt that good after being on penicillins for three in half day when she got Tonsilitis and Strep Throat. She would still be in bed and coughing up a storm, not wanting to go to the mall to go shopping. Sara sees a pair of hop ear rings that has butterflies charm on them, she knows that Bethany would love them so she puts them into the basket she is carrying and then continue to look around some more. She also found a CD case that had butterflies on the cover and a purple butterfly saucer chair she also finds a throw that match the chair. Sara goes and pays for the four items. She then looks around other stores that are in the mall. Meanwhile, Lindsey and Bethany have finish Shopping and are at the food court. Lindsey has got herself five peanut butter cookies and Mt. Dew. Bethany has bought herself a bowl of strawberry ice cream and a Mt. Dew. They are both set at a table wait for Sara to finish shopping. Bethany gets into her purse and take out her prescribe bottle and take her second amoxicillin pill for the day. Lindsey looks at Bethany and then takes a spoonful of her ice cream.

Bethany: Linds, I’m still take amoxicillin for Tonsilitis and Strep Throat.
Lindsey: So, you been on it for over four-eight hours!
Bethany: Yeah, I being on it for three and half days.
Lindsey: Then you been on it for over eight-four hours. It’s safe you not contagious anymore.

With that Bethany reaches across the table and breaks a piece of Lindsey cookie off and eat it. Both girls start laughing. Sara is walking towards the food court and sees the girls laugh and is happy to hear Bethany laughing and to see her smile again the last few days, Bethany has been so tires, grumping and not feeling good. Lindsey and Bethany sees Sara walk up to them and gets up and throws the empty pop cups and the rest of their trash away and Joins Sara. The three of them walk outside and get into Sara light-blue Ford Focus. Sara drops Lindsey off at home then Sara head toward their apartment. When she has to stop for a red light she looks through the review mirror and can see that it been a long morning for Bethany and the trip to the mall has wear her out. The light turns green, so Sara starts drive again.

Sara: So did you and Lindsey have fun shopping together?
Bethany: ( Sound a little hoarse.) Yeah, I had lots, Coughs of fun Sara thanks for take Lindsey and me with you.
Sara: Both of you had shopping to do for Christmas and I do not know what nights I have to go into work since I’m on call this week. Beside the next two days will be total crazy at the mall so I felt today was the best today to go.

Sara pulls into the parking lot and parks her car. The two of them get out of the car and grab their bags them head inside the apartment build they live in and up to the fifth floor. Bethany looks at Sara.

Sara: What?
Bethany: How much longer do I have to wear the cast on my left wrist and right leg for?
Sara: For three more weeks counting this week.
Bethany: So till January 12, 2004?
Sara: Yep

The two of then head inside the apartment and Bethany set her bags down inside her bedroom, as Sara puts her bags in her bedroom closet. Bethany knocks on Sara’s door frame.

Sara: Yes Bethany?
Bethany: I’m going to laying down and take a nap. The trip to the mall and all the walking I did wear me out.
Sara: Ok, I going to laying down and take a nap to incases I get call into work tonight.
Bethany: Ok, See you when I get up then.

Bethany goes into her room and gets into bed and closes her eyes and goes right to sleep. Sara lay down on her bed and Ali lay down next to her. Sara thinking to herself as she falling to sleep with her arms lay on Ali, I hope I do not get called into work tonight. I feel exhausted and my throat is really scratchy and I feel feverish too, that the last thing she thinking about before falling to sleep.

Chapter Fourteen: On call
It 10:15 p.m. on December 23, 2003 Bethany setting on her bed wrap Sara and Ali Christmas gifts. The cordless phone is laying next to her on the bed, because Sara had asked her to take the phone into her bedroom after dinner. Since she is really tired and is going back to bed and too only come get her up for a phone call if It’s someone from the lab calling her into work. The phone starts ringing, Bethany picks the phone up to sees its Cassie from three apartments down. She hit the talk button.

Bethany: Hi, Cassie’s what up?
Cassie: Hi Bethany, I just want to call and see how you are feeling?
Bethany: I feel a lot better, my throat still a little scratchy, but otherwise I feel good my fever gone.
Cassie: Is your Tonsils still swelling?
Bethany: A little and my lymph nodes are still a little swelling too.
Cassie: You think I could come over a hang out for a little while?
Bethany: No, Sara Sleeping I don’t think that she feeling good. We had our favorite meal for dinner tonight which is vegetable stir fries and she just push the vegetable around on her plate and hardly ate any.
Cassie: MY mom needs, the phone so I have to get off now.
Bethany: Ok, I see you around.
Cassie: Ok, Bye.

Bethany hangs up the phone and no soon then she set the phone back down on her bed it starts ringing again. She picks the phone back up and sees that it Gil Grissom office number. She hits the talk button.

Bethany: Hello
Gil: Bethany This Is Sara Supervise Gil Grissom, can I talk to Sara.
Bethany: I will have Sara call you back after I wake her up.
Gil: That fine, have her call me back when she is awake enough to dial the number.
Bethany: I will, Mr. Grissom.

Bethany hits the off button on the cordless phone then puts her feet over the edge of the bed and stands up. She limps towards her bedroom door and slowly opens it. She walks to Sara bedroom door and knock, she then open the door and heads into Sara Bedroom and over to her bed and shakes her. Sara rolls over and looks at Bethany who has the cordless phone in her right hand. Sara set up and rubs her eyes and picks up the bottle of water off the night stand and takes the cap off, she then takes a few sips of water.

Sara: (Sounds sleepy) What do you need Bethany?
Bethany: You need to call Mr. Grissom, he called for you. I tell him that I would have you call him back after I wake you up.
Sara: (Take the phone from Bethany.) Thanks

Bethany leaves Sara Bedroom and goes into the living room. As Sara dial Gil Grissom office number. Bethany goes into her bedroom and grabs a change of clothing for the morning and her book bag so she can work on the schoolwork she is behind in. She set on the couch wait for Sara, when Sara walks out of her bedroom with Ali right behind her. Bethany notices that Sara has put on a pair of good jeans and a long sleeve white shirt, with a black blazer. She also has a light-blue scarf wipe around her neck. Bethany watch Sara’s walk into the kitchen and grab and travels mug out of the cabinet and full it up with water then puts the mug into the microwave to heat the water up. She grabs the box of herbal tea down and takes two tea bags out. When the microwave beeps she takes the mug out and puts the herbal tea bags into the travel mug and lets the tea bag set for a few minutes.

Sara: Bethany are you ready to go to Catherine Willows house?
Bethany: Yeah, I am ready Sara. But are you sure you should go into work tonight you look flush plus your voice sounds a little scratchy and you hardly touch you dinner tonight.
Sara: I have to go into work, we are short since Nick out of town and it all night shift CSI on deck tonight that are in town.

Sara throws the tea bags into the trash can and puts the lid on the mug. Then the two of them head out to Sara Car and get in. Sara’s drops Bethany’s off at Catherine houses and makes sure Bethany’s gets into the house before pull out of the driveway and heading to the crime scene. As she drives to the crime scene, she starts to think about how sore her throat really is. God it hurts really bad to swallow a sip of tea. She pulls up in front of the house the crime happened at, she turns her car off then get out of the car. She open up the back door and grabs her kit. As she walking up to the house, she pulls a cough drop out of her jean pocket and puts it into her mouth. Jim Brass sees Sara walk towards the house and that she has just put a cough drop into her mouth, he also notices Sara looks a little flush. He walks up to Sara and take her kit and then the two of them walk into the house together.

Jim: Sara you are looking flush and I saw you put a cough drop in your mouth are your feel all right?
Sara: (Clear her throat.)Yeah, my throat is just a little scratchy and I am feeling a little run down is all.
Jim: I think you might be coming down with a cold Sara?
Sara: I hope not, So where in the house did the crime happen?
Jim: In the dinner room.
Sara: (Clear her throat again) How many die?
Jim: Eighteen, the whole family was over here celebrating Chanukah.

Just then Sara and Jim walk up to the doorway of the dinning room and Sara sees all the victims were all shot in the back of the head and was face down in they soup. By the amount of bullet cartridges she knows that they were at lest eighteen shooter and by the type of cartridges on the floor she knows that the guns use was world war two era Handguns. Sara takes her kit from Brass and joins Catherine, Warrick, Gil in take pictures of the crime scene.

Chapter Fifteen: Hate Crime
After Sara finish taking pictures she goes over to her kit and pulls out a pair of latex gloves and put them on. She then gets to work collect the bullet cartridges that are all over the floor. As she collect the cartridges she thinking to herself. I should have taken my temperature before I left my apartment, she pulls another cough drop out of her jean pocket and puts into her mouth. It takes her an hour to collect all the bullet cartridges off the floor and to put them into evidence bags. Both David and Dr. Robbins have just finishes checking the body temperatures of all the victims and give the CSI the clearing to collect the evidence off the body. Before they take them back to the lab. Warrick, Catherine and Gil stop what they are doing and helps Sara check the victims for any trace evidence that could have been lift behind but there wasn’t any.

Gil: David and Dr. Robbins you can take the bodies now there is no trace evidence on them. Dr, Robbins, can you remove the bullet from the eighteen victims heads and sent them to Bobby Dawson to run.
Dr. Robbins: I, sure will Gil Grissom.
Sara: Grissom, I need to go outside and get some fresh air.
Gil: That fine Sara.

Sara takes her gloves off and puts one into an evidence bag and put the bag glove into her kit with the rest of the evidences she has collect then walks outside. As she outsides she takes a walk around and notices that lots of the cars and vans parked in the driveway and on the street by the house have infant carseat and boost seats in them. She runs back into the house and gets a new pair of latex gloves out of her kit and puts them on her hands. Warrick, Catherine and Gil walk over to her.

Catherine: Sara what wrong you have that look on your face that says something terrible has happened?
Sara: We need to check all the other rooms in the house and the basement for babies, children and they stuff.
Gil: Sara, there no babies and children in the dinner room or in the house accord to the offices that clear the scene!
Sara: When I was outside I take a walk around and I look into the vans and cars in the driveway and parked on the street by the house. Lots of them have infant carseat and boost seats in them with items in the car that says that the children come here with their parents tonight.
Gil: You hear Sara! Catherine gathering up all the victims keys and let started go around to all the cars and open them up and seeing which victim the vans or cars belong to and bag any of the children Items that could have the children smell on them. Sara help Catherine with check the car and vans. Warrick and I will search the house.

Sara and Catherine take the keys out off the evidence bags and then head outside. The two female CSI are still looking through all the vans and cars an hour and half later when Gil and Warrick walk over to them.

Warrick: The children are not here, but there is evidence that there was babies and toddler here along with the adult and teenage that was at the table having dinner.
Gil: The killer moved all the toddlers and babies stuff downstairs into the basement. Catherine and Sara I want you to go back to the lab and take the evidence we collect so far with you. Then go to the coroners’ lab and check in with Dr. Robbins and David.
Sara: Ok
Catherine: But that mean we have to take the evidence in Sarah car since will all rode here in the one crime lab SUV.
Gil: That fine because the two of you are going straight to the lab.

Catherine and Sara bag the last item out of the car and van they are working in then goes inside and get their kits and all the evidence. Then the two of them walk back outside and put their kits and the evidence onto the backseat of Sara Car. Then the two of them get into the car and Sara drive to the lab. As Sara driving Catherine notices that Sara keeps rubbing her throat with her left hand and is looking a lot more flushes then she did when she first got to the crime scene at 11: 02pm. When Sara stops for a red-light, Catherine reaches over and feels Sara forehead. Sara pulls Catherine hand off her forehead.

Sara: What are you doing Cath?
Catherine: Checking to see if you have a fever!
Sara: I am fine!
Catherine: I was just check because you look flush, but you do not seem to be running a fever, but you are a little clammy Sara, I think you might be coming down with a cold.
Sara: (Clear her throat) I am not getting sick.

Sara pulls her car into the crime lab parking lot and pulls into the free space by the door. After Sara has put the car into parked and turned the car off Catherine gets out and starts getting the evidence bags off the backseat. Sara pulls a cough drop out of her pocket and puts it into her mouth. She then gets out of her car and help Catherine removing all the evidence bags off the backseat of her car.

Catherine: Sara, I have watches you keep putting cough drops in you mouth all evening and the whole ride here you have keep rubbing your throat with your left hand. Sara’s are you sure that you feeling ok?
Sara: I am fine, my throat just a little scratchy is all!

Sara locks her car doors after they have everything out off the backseat, then the two of them head into the lab and goes to the evidence room. Sara sings the evidence in then both of them put on a pair of gloves and starts going through the evidence to figure out what needs to go to trace, DNA, Ballistic, toxic and the fingerprint lab.

Sara: (Clear her throat) I take the DNA evidence to Greg.
Catherine: Ok, I will take the fingerpaint to Mia, and the bullet cartridges to Bobby. Then the two of us will meet up outside the coroners’ lab.
Sara: Ok

Catherine heads to the fingerprint lab and Sara puts away the evidence that does not need to go anywhere, then grabs the bags of DNA evidence and slower walks towards the DNA lab. As she is walking toward the DNA she starts having a coughing fit. She rise her right arm up and coughs into her elbow.
