hi guys! I just wanted to know what you're all doing in real life. Are you still going to school? Are you already working? studying? anything else? And if you're attending school, do you already know what you will do/study afterwards? I'm finishing my final exams on Monday *shakes* and I still don't really know what I want to do with life... I'm still waiting for a light to come *sighs* anyway, hoping for answers Lena

As for me, I will be attending college starting this fall semester, majoring in computer engineering. As for a job, right now I'm checking out Vector Marketing as a possibility (the job has sharp pro's and con's, but I need the money!), as this is my last year working with the police department before I move to Texas.
After school, I'm going to work with robotics, building all sorts of nifty machines for military, rescue, law enforcement, and even domestic applications.

wow, you really seem to know what you want *respect* i wished i had this certainity...
well, I want to start studying in fall, too. But there are so many things I find interesting. It's so complicated just to pick one... At the moment I'm in favour of "Human genetics" and going into twin research...cause that topic has always fascinated me... but I'll see what another ideas summer will bring...

I'm still stuck in high school, with three years left... But after it, I want to study law and become a public prosecutor. Or I can go to the Police Academy. What I really would looove to be is a writer, but there's no school for that

Hey, trust me, as much as I HATED it, high school language arts/English classes are the best teaching I got on writing. Now I'm a stickler for proper grammar and spelling.

I know something about writing. For instance, it is harder to write fiction than non-fiction, especially for someone geeky who has a poor understanding of people in real life.
And there are all kinds of different skills in writing fiction. Some people have a good writing style (this *doesn't* mean good spelling and grammar incidently). Some are good at plots and storytelling. Some are good at characterisation.
And of course if you can do all three you are Shakespeare or Charles Dickens.

Well I'm not as good as they are (duh). Mostly I write short stories or fanfics (these I write in English) or other things. But I have trouble with the grammar, even though I'm writing in Dutch. I love to let one person in one story be connected to another person in another story. Some of you read my fics on this site. If you have read my H'sluis/Miami cross over, you'll remember Julia Luisant. In another story I wrote about a girl who had a friend in high school, and that friend was, yes indeed, Julia. But it's quite hard to remember all facts I wrote. I have to say it is fun. It's indeed, like CSIHamlet said, harder to write fiction than non-fiction, though when writing non-fic it's hard to not make it look better or worse than it actually is.

It sounds interesting scorpii, keep it up. And don't worry about the grammar, it isn't important, as long as the text reads well that is all that matters.
When I worked as an editor I remember one of our best writers had English as his second language. His texts were fairly obviously written by a foreigner, but the odd grammatical oddity was easily compensated by his lively, clear and engaging style. And those grammar quirks were easily fixed.
My own understanding of grammar is actually very poor. I just have an instinctive feel for what works and what doesn't.
Here is the classic example of what I mean:
"To boldly go where no man has gone before."
Everyone knows that famous phrase. But grammatically it is plain wrong. It should be:
"To go boldly where no man has gone before."
But clearly the grammatically correct version isn't as good as the famous one. So really I take no notice of grammar at all.
Throw all those grammar books away, once you've grasped the bare minimum needed to make yourself understood, they are all nonsense! Instead read real well written books, and learn how to write that way!

Thank you! Yeah I try to read good books to find out how to write good, but I don't always have time for that. Okay, then I won't care too much about grammar any more ;D As long as they understand me ;D

I think I was misunderstood... My only point was that although in college there aren't many classes that can teach you how to write well, the Language Arts classes in high school are extremely valuable.
I only used grammar and spelling to demonstrate how drastically the classes changed ME.
But Hamlet's right. You all remember the children's book "See Spot Run," right? That book consists of childish sentence fragments, and you'd fail your classes if your essays looked like that, because it's so improper. But the author of that book made millions because it was perfect for children just learning to read!

scorpii, there are schools for writing y'know, like Literature or Dutch. I tried out for the School of Writing for Performance in Utrecht, where you learn to write for theatre, movies, etc. Unfortunately I didn't get in. Write now I am trying to het into one of these: -School for teaching Drama (Zwolle, so you don't learn drama but you learn to teach it to other people) -Dutch (Zwolle) -Journalism (Zwolle or Enschede)
This friday I'll hear wether I graduated or not....!!!!!! shocking...

Well, I'm in highschool. Still not sure what I'm going to do. Definitely going to try to be a broadway actress, and if not that, a writer, and if not that a homicide detective. Haha, I have to have a back-up plan for my back-up plan.
