When Rhia left her office she bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry...", she said apologising. "Oh, hey...that's you, Brian. Wait a sec... We were talking on the phone to each other, although we weren't even 10 metres away from each other?", she laughed and shrugged. "What a funny world... anyway, let's go. Maybe Miss Li can tell us more about the mayor's wife...?"
And Rhia started walking along the corridor. "Brian? I'm a bit worried about Agent Greeley. I think we made him very angry and the fact that he didn't call, didn't show up, didn't do anything makes me, uhm, really nervous..."

"Yeah, well, I'm a bit tired, figured I'd call you from my office. But since we have to go somewhere..." Brian then listened to her thoughts on the FBI agent. "Hey, no doubt they are cooking something up. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, however. Right now, it's time to find Li Ngyuen and see what she has to offer for this investigation. I hope you don't mind driving..."
Brian sighed. There was too much to do, and who knew when the FBI would ask for their reports and evidence?

Rhia smiled. "I would have killed him, if it had been my car!", she said jokingly and stepped outside. She then got into her car and started the engine. While they were driving along the street, she furrowed her brows.
"Have I already told you, that Danny got a threat on his life? I ordered two officers for his room, but somehow I don't feel good about the whole thing... the sooner we've finished it, the better...", she sighed. "So this Li woman better is nice to us...", she said on pulling into a free parking lot in front of the building.
"After you!", she pointed her hand to the building. "You're the one who knows the father..."

Brian made sure his tie was good and straight. "Well, Rhia, it doesn't really matter who *I* know. What's important is that THEY remember ME. I'm sure Mr. Ngyuen has no doubt told his daughter about the SWAT team this morning..."
Brian walked into the lobby, and strolled over to Mr. Ngyuen's door.
Then he kicked it in.
Mr. Ngyuen and his daughter were in the room, eating lunch and watching TV. They jumped off of their sofa and put their backs against the wall in utter horror. "New York Crime Lab," Brian announced. "You crazy, crazy man! Why don't you knock?" Mr. Ngyuen asked, terrified. "And give you two time to come up with an alibi? I think not," Brian responded. "You see, Li, he is crazy! Do not make him mad, I think he will eat you!" "Not without a little sauce, Mr. Ngyuen." The sarcasm went right over his head, and he paled. Brian continued, "Li Ngyuen, I'm detective Shefkowitz with the New York Crime Lab and this is the Crime Lab supervisor, Ms. Nerice. You will address us as 'sir,' and 'ma'am,' respectively, and you will tell me the truth." Li nodded. Brian shut the door, best he could, and sat down backwards on a chair, facing the Ngyuens, who were now on the floor against the wall. Brian had learned this technique a long time ago. He took every opportunity to make it appear as if he was the one in control, although he hardly had any control without the right information, information they desperately needed.
"Li, please tell me about your confrontations with the mayor's wife."

Rhia was just about to knock, when Brian kicked open the door. She cocked an eyebrow, but followed without any comment. She watched his impressing appearance, trying hard not to laugh. If you really knew Brian, you would see how perfectly he was at acting. She shook her head slightly, put on an earnest face and decided to play his game.
Folding her arms across her chest, she looked at Li, who was sitting on the floor shakily.
"I...she called me a slut!", Li finally said withough taking her glance from the floor.
"Did she have any reason for that?", Rhia asked.
"Well...maybe...", Li answered uncertain.
"C'mon, we don't have time for some silly games!", Rhia said sharply. Li jumped and hurried to speak on.
"I spent a night with her husband, okay? She found out and started to fight with me. Of course I fought back and she left furiously...", Li smiled at the remembrance.
"When did this fight take place?", Rhia wanted to know.
"Yesterday."

Lilly walked out as Danny fell asleep. she got in her car and took the bullet to the lab. she runned it through the system and there came a match. It was the same as the bullet used four months ago in a murder. The police didn't find the weapon and now the bullet said the gun was back in use. she called Rhia. "Hey Rhia. Sorry if i'm interrupting, but the bullet of Danny was a match to the bullet found in a murder case three months ago."

Danny opened his eye to make sure she was gun then stood up, one of the officers came in, 'HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Danny looked at him, "Not staying here while my team finds the people after me," He walked out.

"Ok, Li. Let me tell you what I think happened, and you just let me know if I'm right or wrong," Brian said. He was disorienting her, first asking her to talk, and then not letting her get much out. That, combined with his commanding presence and rushed demeanor was more than enough to make her putty in his hands. She was not going to lie -- lies were risky by nature, and, in her eyes, the situation was too volatile to risk lying to this man.
"Your father knew about the mayor's wife's stays. He also knew you fought with her on some occasions. But when he learned that you were having an affair with the mayor, and that his wife insulted your honor quite often, he became enraged. He asked your brother, Mao, for advice. Mao, from prison, tells you guys he will take care of it. A few phone calls later, and some Chinese assassins poke a few holes in the delicate fabric of New York's political system."
Li and her father were trembling and pale, now. This was a good sign. Brian pressed on.
"And here's what really makes my brain itch: we found persian cat hairs all over the place. A nice trick to slow us down, but guess who happens to own a very hairy persian cat, Li? You two are in some deep sh--" Brian's phone rang, interrupting him. He answered it, knowing that any call he received during an interrogation was vastly important.
"Detective Shefkowitz?" "This is he." "I'm correctional officer Balmes from the county prison. We just booked the suspect from the sheriff's house. I think you'll want to know that when we ID'd him, we found out he works for the FBI in the homicide division." "Well now, that explains a lot."
Brian hung up and looked at Rhia, who had just hung up her own phone.
"New plan, Rhia. We need to bring these two to the Crime Lab, now. The masked man at the Sheriff's house is an FBI agent. A very dirty agent, by the looks of things. That is probably why agent Greeley wanted the evidence so fast -- he wanted to get rid of it."
Brian drew his gun. "Ok, you two, you're under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder. We'll sort out who did what at the station."
Brian searched them for weapons while Rhia readied the car. Things were becoming increasingly dangerous.

Everything went so fast. One moment they nearly had the Ngyuens at the point of confessing, the other one they were sitting in the back of her car bound. The FBI had a traitor or maybe even more. Danny was in danger. It was too much, too many things ocurring at one time. Rhia wished to just put up her hands and freeze the time (as she had seen on TV once), but knowing this would never happen, she just drove to the lab.
"What now? Who is to inform about the infiltrated FBI? We mustn't trust anyone now!", she said trying to sound as calm as possible. She sent out a message to all her colleagues, telling them the newest development. "And we still don't have a clue about the killer. He's still on the loose..."
At the entrance of the lab, Rhia noticed the black FBI cars and took a spin. "Safer to take the side entrance...", she murmured, as she pulled to a halt there. She called backup for the two prisoners and let them being led into the interrogation room.
"So...are you cooperating now?", she spit at the two of them.

"You know what, Jade, I don't think we can take the time to get a cup of coffee right now" Sam said while driving the last CSI SUV away from the original crime scene. "I have the slightest feeling something really bad is going to happen. Normally I wouldn't trust any feeling like that but there are too many people involved in this case for everything to run smoothly. Let's get back to PD and find out what is now exactly happening. I really need an update." In silence, Sam and Jade took the SUV back to PD, entered the building and asked for Detective Shefkowitz. After all, Rhia would probably be with him, being CSI supervisor, and if she was right, PD would have at least a clue where Brian could be. "Interrogation room 2, they just brought in a couple of suspects. You better not interrupt" Sam smiled at the trainee receptionist and practically dragged Jade along to interrogation room 2. She took place on a stool in a small room at the see-through side of the one-way mirror that divided the interrogation room from this room. "I always like watching interrogations" Sam whispered to Jade. She had been right. Rhia was with Brian, and, like the receptionist had told them, they were interrogating two suspects. A asian-looking older man and a younger asian-looking woman. "I'm telling you - their techniques of interrogation will surprise you" Sam smiled.

"Don't forget," Brian whispered to Rhia just before they entered the interrogation room, "One of these two could be the shooter. All we know is that we're missing SOME piece of the puzzle."
Brian's orders to the guards were specific. Mr. Ngyuen and his daughter sat on metal chairs, their hands handcuffed behind the backs of the chairs. It was very uncomfortable, and it was going to get worse. Brian knew the fastest way to get people to cooperate was to make them WANT to cooperate faster. If they told him the truth, and told him quickly, he'd make things more comfortable. If they kept lying, well, Brian had some stress to relieve.
"Li Ngyuen. What is your father's relation to Shen Jing Bing?" Brian barked the question at her. She shot a nervous glance at her father. If she thought he was truly innocent, she would have said so. The gesture showed Brian that Mr. Ngyuen was involved in Shen Jing Bing.
Brian reached back and unplugged the security camera in the room. Then he turned around, and pushed Mr. Ngyuen's chair over with his foot. The chair and the poor old man crashed to the ground with a metallic THUNK.
"If I wanted your father to answer that question, I would have asked him, Li. But, instead, I chose to ask you." "He... he does not work for them anymore. He is only an old friend." Brian put his foot on Mr. Ngyuen's head. He would never, ever hurt him this way. But Li didn't need to know that. "I love the sound of cracking bones, Li. Please give me a reason to crush your father's skull. Any reason -- such as lying to me again." Li began crying, and with her tears came the truth. "No! Please! He lets Shen Jing Bing stay in his apartments when they come through town!" "And who stayed in apartment 172?" "I am not told their names!" "DO YOU WANT YOUR FATHER TO DIE SLOWLY, IN FRONT OF YOU, LI?!" Brian screamed at the sobbing young woman. "I swear I don't know their names! Please don't hurt him! This is cruel and unusual!" "No it's not. Not yet. I will redefine those terms for you very clearly in a second if you don't help me out here. I've got dirty FBI agents breathing down my neck, three dead bodies, and a missing sniper rifle. You think I have anything to lose by beating the information I need out of you two?" The malice in Brian's voice was enough to make them crack. Surprisingly, it was Mr. Ngyuen who spoke.
"I was in room 172, detective." His voice was quiet and frail. Brian sat him back up. Now he was getting somewhere, so he was back to being the good cop. "And I can tell you where to find the rifle, if you will please stop torturing my daughter by threatening to harm me in front of her," Mr. Ngyuen continued. His accent had changed, slightly, and his grammar was suddenly perfect. Brian realized that the funny old man he met at dawn had been an act. Brian let him continue. "I was paid by Shen Jing Bing to shoot the mayor and his wife. They gave me the rifle, and they have fifty pounds of gold waiting for me in a warehouse. My daughter is just a catalyst in this; she only set in motion the events that we had been planning on for months. My son made some calls, and assured me that law enforcement would not be a problem." "We need to be able to prove everything. Where is the rifle?" "Buried under the willow tree behind the apartments, six feet down, to avoid being found by your metal detectors."
Brian walked over to the mirror. He knew Sam's habit of watching interrogations, and this time he needed her expertise. He spoke loudly at the mirror, "Sam, you're the psychologist. Is he telling me the truth? Or just protecting his daughter?"

Watching the way Brian interrogated the man surprised her slightly, but she smiled to herself. She had seen techniques like this before and actually chuckled when the man lost his accent. 'Guess he couldn't hide it anymore,' she thought.

Sam smiled at Jade when Brian called for her. "I'll be back in a few minutes, I think. I'll just have to play along." She entered the interrogation room and nodded quickly at Rhia and Brian, before looking at the man. "Hmm. He seems quite honest, though... there is something that doesn't seem that honest about him..." She wanted to confuse the man, to get him to try the best he could at proven to them he was being honest. If he'd do so, it would be easy to tell whether he was really lying or not. If he didn't try to, he would at least have some sort of expression that would tell everything. Mr. Ngyuen looked at her. "I am telling the truth, ma'am. Don't believe me, go search there." "You would just love that if we'd do that right now, wouldn't you? That would give your Shen Jing Bing buddies more time to get you and your daughter out of here, wouldn't it? Tell me Mr. Ngyuen, how many shots were exactly fired?" Sam tried to ask this in a way that wouldn't raise suspicion from the man. If he had fired the rifle, he would have a really hard time getting the correct number of shots right, although he would be close. If he was lying, he would be correct without showing any doubt or he'd be totally off. "Three... or... four, I think" the man looked at her. "I don't know it that precize. It's a bit of a blur." "A blur, huh? You know what the psychologists call that? Forced amnesia." Uhm, no, that wasn't true, but there was no law against lying against a suspect and trying to sound intimidating and an expert in a certain field didn't hurt most of the times. At that moment, the daughter got on her feet and looked Sam straight in the eyes. "Think everything you want of us, but we are no liars." Oh, perfect. "Nooo, certainly not." Sam said in a sarcastic tone. "You both just tried to deceive the whole CSI squad. Well guess what... CSIs can't be deceived." "Miss, we are not lying to you" Mr. Ngyuen said while trying to force his daughter to sit down again, even though he was handcuffed. "Shen Jing Bing is a very powerful organization and we are just between the law of society and the law of the jungle. The strongest will survive. I shot the mayor, yes I did, and my daughter..." Sam had heard enough. He WAS protecting his daughter. But not from them. If word got out SHE had talked to them, Shen Jing Bing probably would kill her the minute she showed her face outside of this building, while he was an older man who was willing to sacrifice his life for his daughter if necessary. "Mr. Ngyuen, can I make you a promise?" Sam asked in a suddenly soft and caring voice. The man looked at her. "A promise." He looked at her as if she was something disgusting. "Your promises aren't worth more than a thief's promises." "On the contrary, sir. While a thief has no power except over the possesions he steal, I can try to get someone to protect the one who hasn't pulled the trigger the minute that person is released from jail. All we want to know is who exactly pulled the trigger. And don't play tricks on me, I recognize a lie when it's told to me"

Lilly was busy, when her cell phone beeped. 'A message' she thought and went to check. when she saw from who it came, she smiled. but when she saw the message itself, her heart froze. she ran out to find one of the others, no matter who.
