Myka Sheppard was tired when the knocking came from her new apartment door. she had arrived only a day before and the ten hour flight had taken most of her energy that and the urge not to slap the snot nose teenager who thought it was fun to listen to his music so loud that she was worried that her ear drums were going to burst.
stumbling out of the only bedroom in her new York apartment she cursed the boxes scattered in her living room making a mental note to give her self at least two days to clear her apartment up before she started at the crime lab.
When she yanked the door open she was rather surprised to find an elderly lady standing there clutching at her shawl beaming at her.
"Ah i was wondering who moved in... not many young folk left in this building" the woman sounded sweet... too sweet to be knocking that hard at the door. Myka simply rubbed her eyes and wondered what the woman was saying, sleep didn't help with the thinking process.
"can... can i help you" Myka squeaked pushing the few locks of brown hair that had fallen forward from her face. the elderly just smiled "I'm Mrs Jeffreys from across the hall and down two doors, i heard someone was moving in and i wanted to say hello... you don't speak like the rest of the people around here... where you from dear" Mrs Jeffreys asked making it clear she wasn't going to leave anytime soon.
Myka hid a yawn smiling back at the old woman "i come from England maim" Myka told her as the old woman nodded "a limey" she declared and Myka laughed and nodded. she hoped that wasn't going to be a common nick name for her.
"yes maim...It was nice meeting you but I only arrived yesterday and I'm rather tired" Myka was being as nice as she could but Mrs Jeffreys wasn't getting the hint. for she wrapped the shawl tighter around her and made no attempt to leave.
"what you do dear" she questioned causing Myka to groan inwardly and lean against the door "I transferred here... to the crime lab, have you heard of it" Myka questioned but the old lady simply stare at her "is that the police" she asked as Myka went to explain fully but sighed and nodded. she was really was too tired for this "yes maim... we work along side the police" Myka told her before Mrs Jeffreys face lit up and she reached out for Myka's hand.
"thank god... if you work for the police then you can investigate it" Mrs Jeffreys was tugging on Myka's hand causing her to frown "what" she exclaimed tugging her own hand back. Mrs Jeffreys gave her a serious look and straightened "why you can investigate Alf Jr's death... he was murdered and i have the proof now" Mrs Jeffery's declared. Myka was shocked and allowed her self to be drag to the old ladies apartment.
She hadn't even started at her new job and there was already a murder for her to investigate maybe things would be a lot interesting here then back in England.
