As Zora got ready for work she sighed. It had been awhile since she was actually at a crime scene but she was really looking forward to it. The week or so before the accident Zora had been to busy with court to be called out.
"The accident." Zora thought to herself. At least that is what everyone called it. But was it really an accident? Maybe it was the CSI inside of her but she just couldn't be sure that it had truly been just an accident.
<<Flashback>>
The cold New York morning started out as any other. Zora had awoken to the sound of her alarm clock and done her usual ritual for getting ready for work. After a little over a week Zora was finally done with court and could get back to what she considered "real work". She knew that court was an important part of being a CSI but crime scenes, and working in the lab was what she really loved.
When Zora left her apartment she thought she saw him. The man she had loved for so long. Shaking her head to get his image out of her mind Zora realized he couldn't be here in New York, she was just imagining things. Getting into her black SUV she started the heater and waited for the windows to defrost; this was her first New York winter and so far she wasn't enjoying it. Growing up in Miami you didn't exactly have to defrost your car windows every morning. she thought with a smile.
As Zora drove down the road she thought to herself how much she needed to look for an apartment in the city. The drive to work was crazy. If she hadn't loved the place she now lived in so much she wouldn't have taken it. There were some long stretches of almost deserted road before she hit the city. And this winter driving it could be tough she realized.
Zora heard a strange noise and wondered what it was. Before she could even decide what the noice was Zora felt the steering wheel jerk to the left. Letting off the gas and lightly touching the breaks Zora hoped to slow the vehicle down. But she soon realized the brakes weren't working. On the other side of the road Zora saw a car coming, she wouldn't have time to do anything except....
Zora jerked the wheel to the right as hard as she could and flinched waiting for the pain. The squealing of tires and the horrible sound of crunching metal and breaking glass was the last thing she heard, and with it her last thought, please don't let anyone else get hurt....
<<present>>
Amazingly Zora survived and she had accomplished not hitting the other car. Fortunately for her however the driver of the other vehicle called 911, and stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.
With only a couple of broken ribs, a concussion, and a lot of cuts and bruises Zora was back out of the hospital quickly. Since she was the kind of person that couldn't stand missing work, she had asked for a spot in the lab until she could heal. Being out in the field with those types of injuries would be nearly impossible. Zora knew that without her friends at the NY Crime Lab she wouldn't have recovered as quickly as she did. They had all been great and she had really been sad when a couple of her colleagues had moved on to other things. Luke had been a great supervisor and she knew she wasn't the only one who missed him but Rhia had been promoted and Zora felt she was doing a wonderful job.
When Zora pulled into the parking lot she took another deep breath. Here we go she thought to herself. Back out into the big world of crime scene investigations.
