I would like to take this time now to explain in a little detail the methodology of a typical CrimelabNl RPG case. A premise is agreed upon before the case opens, and every makes sure they are on the same page. Participating members may already be aware of "secrets" before the case starts, however the members let the secrets come out after a thorough investigation. So, if in a murder case involving, say, a car, some hair fibers are eventually found in the trunk, the case works out well. However, it is generally considered bad form to pull seemingly random secrets out of thin air, especially if it doesn't fit in with the context upon which all members had agreed. For instance, it would detract from the RPG experience if, in the murder about a car, a member suddenly realized that the killer was actually a rabid dog from Canada. As members, you need to stay on the same page as the other members, because going off in your own direction (without first discussing it) confuses people and drags the case on, and at times can destroy a lot of the work that the other members had done.
That being said, I must remind everyone what the actual investigation in Case 11 is about: - A guard and his canine were killed in a prison escape - The NYPD has made shutting down Shen Jing Bing a top priority - Shen Jing Bing was found to be involved in the prison escape and murder
So, in conclusion, I felt it was only appropriate to remind us (since I don't like singling everyone out, especially since I can go off-track, too) to watch the extraneous tangents.
Love,

short question: can crimelab workers arrest people? I don't think so - or do they? Or do we need a detective now? (Sorry, but I really don't know...)

Hmm, I don't know as well. I guess the CSIs can, since the CSIs in CSI:NY are detectives as well and therefore have the right to arrest people. Crime lab employees how ever can't.

In the United States, only sworn officers of the law are allowed to make arrests, or in some cases, citizens that are directly ordered to make an arrest by a sworn officer of the law. (There is no such thing as a citizen's arrest.) As such, real crime scene investigators never make arrests, nor do they ever interrogate suspects. Arrests, interrogations, interviews, and developing theories are all jobs of the detectives.
However, on the show CSI, the investigators carry weapons and make arrests and even boss officers around -- one of the chief complaints people have about the show's realism. But, I for one don't watch the show for realism, I watch it for the drama and the story and the tech.
But since this board is for CSI fans, and not actual crime scene investigators, I say we stay true to the show and allow the CSIs to make arrests.
Hope that helps!
