Yeah why not? I mean, every high school got it's, uhm, crazy teachers. There're two here, one got fired, the other one too but got his job back, and there are rumours about three others. So it really could be, couldn't it?

Case 5

Post by csihamlet on May 31, 2006 16:41:31 GMT 1
Since I've never role played in my life, and I'm hoping to get in on the next case, I thought I'd read the current one.
Case 5 is pretty cool considering it is written by such a lot of people. I love all those spiders. But inevitably I have ideas and questions now bursting to get out.
Firstly, who is the boy? Do we know anything about him at all? His name, his age, his parents?? Surely they are banging on the door. Has he been finger printed and identified on COTIS (is that the right name for the fingerprint database?) Or maybe he can be identified by looking to see if there are any missing person reports of a lad of about his age.
Second. has the boy's body been removed, or is it still at the crime scene?
I have an idea about how he died, and why all those spiders are there... Though I don't want to say too much. I would have to arrive at the parents house and go though the boy's room to find out...
And yes that note sounds like blackmail to me, which is a nice touch.

Well the boy has a name, but I constantly forget it. Duncan something (Kelly? I don't know. I forgot). he's seventeen and we do need to bring in the parents, probably. Right now I'm on the whole teacher thing, but Fabian, mystic, Doreen, or one of the lab techs could probably introduce them.

If you'd have looked a bit closer at the details, I already established about his parents: I hope you guys don't mind that, but I thought it was already to late to bring in his parents at that point. But this still doesn't answer about where he lives or anything. Of course there will always be some details missing in our cases, but well, we are not real CSI's or detectives, it's not that easy hehe. Things are left out easily, but I don't think that it matters that much. It's not up to us, if you have found something interesting for the story, just use it. Together we can mold our ideas into something great. It's not fun to ask permission before you post something like that. Some things that are to be discussed before are things like adding a second dead body on the crime scene, a CSI getting shot, a CSI's relative coming into play, etc. These things are better to be established when we prepare for a new case. But things that are storyline oriented can alwasy be added. When it doesn't mix up with the rest of the story, you will hear it, but there is not much you can do wrong. Also monroe, I'd also like to recommend you to not post explanations of your entry in the RPG, like you did in your latest entry. This thread is for comments like that, so I'd suggest you erase it and post it here.

As to my last post: I think it's safe for Roberts to call her "detective". They wouldn't call a real CSI that, but then real CSIs don't interrogate either. The CSIs in the show are actually sort of a mix between CSIs and homicide detectives. And I'm pretty sure they're called "detective" in the show.

It's CODIS, actually, but you were close enough. I'm back from vacation by the way, and my character would appreciate a situation report. After lunch he went to buy a black SUV like everyone else, but... eh, check my latest post in Arachno Assault.
And desert tarantula venom is NON-TOXIC to human beings.
I'm curious why nobody is investigating the spider angle, considering it's a very specific clue. Not too many people could go around with hundreds of desert tarantulas unnoticed. The plot thickens while evidence piles up, and still there is an unconvered angle. This is exciting! The story could go anywhere!
I just think it's time for the head CSI to give a situation report so we're all on the same page. Especially my poor, frustrated character.

Ah, CODIS, thanks. Do you know what it stands for?
Anyway, I'm not on this case, but I'm still bursting to share my idea about how "Duncan" died from non-lethal spider bites... Think about it, *some* people die from wasp stings, or even eating peanuts or shell fish...
You could find out about this by interviewing Duncan's nearest and dearest, or by discovering a bottle of adrenalin in his room.

CODIS stands for Combined DNA Index System. Yes, indeed, Duncan could be alergic to those spiders... by the way, I think Sam Noir would like at least a summary of what's happened too, since she has investigated that note and since she's very curious

Tarantula venom is non-toxic to humans unless the victim has anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a sudden and severe allergic reaction that occurs within minutes of exposure, PROGRESSES RAPIDLY and can lead to anaphylactic shock and death within 15 minutes if medical intervention is not obtained.
So if Duncan Kelly did have anaphylaxis, he was killed by someone who was close enough to him to know that, and also someone who recently purchased hundreds of desert tarantulas.
A bottle of adrenaline? I don't follow you...

Adrenaline is used to treat severe allergic reactions (presumably anaphylactic shock). I once worked with a colleague who had a peanut allergy, and I believe she kept a vial of adrenaline and a syringe in the office, in case of emergencies.

No, ephedrine is used to treat anaphylactic shock. I've never heard of adrenaline being used. I also know that steroids are often used to coax a dead heart back into beating immediately after it stops... but never heard of adrenaline.
Perhaps my first aid instructor left something important out lol... wouldn't be the first time >.<

Well, it looks like your first aid instructor left something out, though s/he wasn't wrong either. Apparently drugs such as ephedrine can certainly be used in treating allergies. But in the most severe cases affecting breathing it looks like adrenalin must be used, as it is more effective.
Have you been taught to administer an injection? If not, maybe that's why adrenalin shots didn't come up. Or it is perhaps just too rare a phenomenon to be covered in a first aid course. I've never done a first aid course but presumably they concentrate on the most common and most easily treatable conditions.

The only injection I can legally do is an ephedrine shot, through the use of an "Epi-Pen." But apparently, ephedrine works as a kind of synthetic adrenaline -- they are both used to treat the same things, and apparently Epi-Pens are just the more common treatment.
