The man in a black coat, looking like any other guy walking the dog, looked at the house. He re-checked his note. Yes, this was the right one.
Sam entered the lab for another day of work. As always, she looked forward to a new case, new material to investigate. In her lab, her domain, she noticed a little note lying on her desk. She picked it up and read it.
Sam, I want to see you in my office. ASAP. Luke
She wondered about how short this note was. But then she turned around to get to Luke's office.

Brian strolled into the lab, and pulled on his lab coat. Everyone was looking at him weird, but all he could do was return their smiles. He sat down at his desk, and began catching up on all those emails that he was never able to answer before. You weren't really supposed to read email at work, but Brian didn't think anyone was going to stop him today. It was his first day back.
"This would be a perfect day for something to go wrong," he muttered sarcastically to himself, trying to think of what could possibly go wrong on such a slow day. He realized that he had no assignments. Hmmm... He peered around. The lab technicians around him had lots of work. "Oh, please dont' tell me Luke is reducing my work load because he feels sorry for me!"
Brian got up and began walking to Luke's office.

"Oh, hey! Already back on the job?" Sam asked when she noticed Brian.

"Hey, as much as I'd like to be out in the field, I'll take evidence analysis over hospital food any day," Brian replied with a grin. "Have I missed anything while I was gone?"

"Nah, not too much. I'm just waiting for the next case. Don't know what to expect, though. It's been real quiet. But Luke wants to see me. I dunno why, whatever. Maybe it's just something new"

"Yeah, I need to talk to Luke, too," Brian replied. "Just because I got ripped to shreds doesn't mean I can't do my job, you know." Brian involuntarily looked down at a scar on his arm. He was getting a bad habit of doing that every time he didn't know where to look. He hated that scar; it was a constant reminder of the sins he committed to stay alive. He tried to change the subject. "I, uh... finished unpacking the other day."

Sam saw that Brian looked at his scar, but didn't ask about it. He probably wouldn't like it if she did. "Oh, good! You already feel at home here in New York?" She smiled. She thought she had never felt happier when Brian was finally rescued. She had never lost someone she had cared this much about. She had never even experienced someone she cared about being in the danger Brian had gone through. But that he wanted to work, that was a good sign, right? That things were somewhat okay? Or he just wanted to be able to think of other things... Sam pushed the thoughts out of her mind and looked at Brian. "Where in town is your apartment, by the way?"

Brian knocked on Luke's door a little louder than he intended, and replied, "Eh, unfortunately, its not in the best part of town, but its a nice place. Nice enough for me to afford, anyways. I guess I didn't get the memo about where the rest of you live," he said with a chuckle. "I swear, I'd be a lonely little boy if I didn't have the internet!"
He knocked on the door again, without thinking. Why was he so impatient to work today? Most people would do just about anything to have an excuse to slack off. He looked from the door, to Sam, and shrugged, as if to excuse his impatience.

Luke opened the door. He did not look happy. "Did you have to knock so many times? I heard you the first time". He suddenly felt guilty, seeing that it was Brian that knocked on the door. "O, sorry Brian. It's very good to see you again. If you don't mind, I really need to have a talk with Sam first. Alone." Luke's eyes shortly met Sam's, but then looked away. "Come in, Sam." Luke's behaviour was not promising much good...

Sam nodded. "Okay" She smiled at Brian and walked into Luke's office. She sat down on one of the chairs and looked at Luke. "What's up? You look serious"

"I am", Luke sighed. "We have a situation. When I accepted you here, I did not tell the 'higher powers' about your history in Miami. It did not seem relevant to me, because you have done outstanding work and I am confident that you are one of the best." He smiled at her. "I thought that your history would not be a big deal and since no one bothered to look into it, I was very glad. It would seem unlikely to me that someone would tell me to fire you...but someone did. I don't understand how this person got this information, but I am really getting pressured here."

"What?!" Sam looked at Luke, surprised, shocked. "You're kidding, right? Please tell me you are! Oh my god..." She walked to the window, to look outside. Then she turned around again and looked at Luke, again. "Please tell me you are not going to fire me..."

Oh no! Rhia thought pushing the doors of the building open. Late again... While she took the hallway with large steps, she eyed her surroundings hoping not to bump into her boss, Luke. But no one was to be seen. So she quietly sneaked into her office.
The first thing she noticed was her empty desk. Rhia frowned. This could only mean one thing - they didn't have to do anything today. Sighing she let herself sink into the chair and turned on the computer. Only one new e-mail and it was rubbish. She leaned back and closed her eyes. What else could she do than wait? Sam wasn't there, too. She had had a look into her office window next to hers...but it had been empty. So, she relaxed a little letting her thoughts wander...

''Of course I'm not going to fire you'', Luke smiled when he stood up. "Y'know, I'm the one that hold back information, it would be dishonest to let you take the fall for that. Besides, us Dutchies need to stick together somehow." He sighed and walked towards her. "I told you this because someone might want to talk to you these days. They are going to look into the case again. As long as I'm concerned, you can just keep on working, until someone tells you otherwise."

While waiting, Brian wandered a little ways down the hallway, back and forth. After a few paces, he stopped to examine a framed photograph of the CSI team of '67. He reached up to touch the photograph, and the frame came off the wall and fell to the floor with a short clatter. Brian blinked, and looked up and down the hallway to make sure nobody saw that. Didn't his mother always warn him about touching stuff?! The nail that held the frame to the wall had snapped, so he couldn't put it back. He looked around frantically, and hid the frame behind a trash bin in the hall.
He sat down on the bench, staring at the obvious square on the wall where it had been. Blushing slightly, he pulled out his phone and started playing Tetris.
