When Rhia heard a shatter of class, her eyes flew open at once. At first, she felt like having imagined things but when she shook her head, it seemed very real to her. Curiously she sticked her head out of her office just to find Brian sitting on a bench fiddling with his phone. She smiled.
"Hi Brian! Did you just hear that noise? Or did I dream it?" When these last words had left her mouth she bit her lip. She had just given herself away that she had been...well, napping.
"Do you know where Sam is, by the way?" she added quickly to cover her mistake.

Brian looked up and smiled. "What noise, Rhia?" Brian said, maybe a little too sweetly. "Uh, Rhia," Brian continued, noticing something stuck to her head, "you've got a sticky note stuck to the side of your head."
He flashed her another smile. "I'm just waiting for Luke to get done with Sam in there so I can talk to him. Anyways, what's new?"

Sam nodded at Luke. "Okay. I understand. But I then won't do any recent cases, in case... well, to make sure they won't be kicked out of court. I'll just take a look in old unsolved cases and some other things, until it's sorted out. Okay?"

"Yes, that's probably the best for now. Keep your head cool, Sam." There was a brief silence. "Now, you can tell Brian and Rhia to come in."

Sam nodded. "Okay. Thanks, Luke" She smiled and walked out of the office. She noticed Rhia and Brian talking to eachother and walked up to them. "Hey. Luke says you can get to his office now" Then she walked on, to her lab. How could things have become this wrong? *Flashback* Sam walked throught the Miami sun, up to the orange-ish building in front of her. She felt bad. She had been fired yesterday, and today she had to pick up all of her personal belongings. *End Flashback* She knew her side of the story. And she thought she had been innocent. But things were always so complicated... She entered her lab and began alphabetizing all files and information she had collected in all those years she had studied, worked in Miami and worked here, in New York. A small piece of paper fell out of one of the dictionaries. She picked it up. It seemed to be a yellowish piece of newspaper. The headline said 'Miami-Dade Lab Technician Accused of Forgery'. Sam put the piece of paper in the dictionary, German-English. One word caught her attention: Unlesbar. Unreadable.

Sam was thinking pretty hard about something when she walked out of the office. Brian assumed it was his turn to go in, so he closed his phone, strolled in, and shut the door.
"Mr. Versteeg, I noticed I don't have any work today. But I want you to know that I am fully capable of doing my job. Don't tell me there's nothing I can be working on right now. This is a big city, I'm sure there's SOMETHING going on today."

Luke smiled: ""Don't worry Brian, I've got some work for you. I'd like you and Rhia to check out a crime scene from yesterday. The reason that CSI is being brought in this late is because it seemt like a suicide. Doreen didn't trust it though." He handed him a note: "This is the address. I know you're ready, Brian. It's good you're back. And please, call me Luke."

"Thank you Mr. Ver -- I mean, Luke. We're on it. Oh and uh..." Brian opened his mouth, about to say something, but closed it and frowned. "Nevermind. We're on it." He smiled again, and walked out of the office.
He walked over to Rhia's office and knocked on the doorframe; the door was still open. "Hey, Rhia. We have a case! If you drive, I'll buy you a coffee on the way," Brian joked about her napping. While he waited for her to gather her things, he hung his lab coat up in the closet.

Rhia felt like a total fool. How could she not have noticed the sticky note on her face? Fluttered she returned to her office to recall herself. When Brian came out of Luke's office, she heard his footsteps coming closer and closer. Finally she heard a knock on the doorframe. She looked up, when she heard her name.
"Very funny." She pulled a face, but smiled. "Well, let's get going. You've got the address, I've got the carkey." She winked and grabbed her handbag.
They left the building through the main entrance. Thank god, the media had now turned to the suspicious suicide case and left Brian his peace...

Brian made polite small talk while in the car, but for the most part stayed quiet and let Rhia listen to her favorite radio station. However, as they were pulling up to the house, Brian stuck in his CD. It began playing some loud, hard rock music.
Brian was going to show everyone he was good and ready to be working again.
Music blaring, Brian stepped out of the SUV, crime kit in one hand, and he put his sunglasses on in one fluid motion with the other hand as he strolled confidentally up to the front door.
The local police had taped up the place. Brian winked through his sunglasses and smiled at Rhia, signed his name, pulled on gloves, and stepped inside. There were a couple officers inside, working on their paperwork while guarding the scene. However, when they heard the music, they had stopped and watched through the windows. One officer had a brand new uniform and a haircut that had gone out of style in the 80's. Obviously a rookie. The rookie addressed Brian as he entered, "Hey, CSI. What's with that entrance?"
Brian responded, "What's with that hair?" He blinked, waiting an answer. After the two local cops looked at each other, only slightly offended, Brian said, "Ok guys, why don't you tell Ms. Nerice and I what you know..."

Sam was finally done alphabetizing her books and stuff, and now the mess in the bookcase was a little less messy. She dumped all unnecessary papers in the trash can and sat down on her chair. She turned on the computer to check the internet. If she was right, the results of her first half of the course 'Forensic Psychology' were now in. She smiled when she found the results. She had passed the first half. Good. She turned to a small pile of unsolved cases that she had to take a look at. Always something to do 'round here. Sam opened the first file and looked at the photo and short description of the victim. Apparently, the vic was on a small trip to New York. Originally, he was from - Miami.
*Flashback* Sam walked through the shining, mostly made out of glass corridor. She was on her way home, to where her fiancé was waiting for her. Just when she reached the elevator, the doors opened and her supervisor, the red-haired Horatio Caine, stepped out of it. Sam smiled. Lieutenant Caine didn't; he just looked at the lab tech and then said: 'Ms. Noir, I want to have a talk with you' *End Flashback*
Sam closed the file. What was it that everything now suddenly had her thinking of her previous job at the Miami-Dade Crime Lab? Was it because Brian had been in such danger, that this now suddenly came back to her memory? Or was it just because she was finally... that she finally trusted nothing could go wrong here? At least, not at the point of forgery... she wouldn't make the mistake she had made again. Would she? Sam was pretty sure she wouldn't. Even if she had to force herself, she would never do it again. For sure.

Rhia followed Brian out of the car to the crime scene. As always the police officers didn't seem willing to cooperate, so she sighed and entered the house. She signed her name under Brian's and smiled broadly at the cops.
"Hi guys!" She started playing with one of her locks that always fell into her face out of habit. "Would you mind telling us what happened here? We're just doing our job here....and the sooner we're done, the sooner you can leave, too."
One of the officers smiled back, while the other one stared at her blankly.
"Look, missy. Why don't cha mind yer own business? All we know is that we found this guy in the livin' room. Back there." and he pointed his finger over his back.
Rhia smiled politely and followed the given direction without saying any other word. She kept her gaze down to avoid ruining evidence. Some drops of bloods were all she found in the kitchen, though, they had to cross to reach the living room. She put out a yellow tag with the number one and placed it there. Then there was nothing remarkable (at least at first glance). But the living room was a mess. Everything was reversed, the content of the drawers were turned upside down, even one of the curtains was ripped off.
Rhia spun around to meet Brian's gaze. "What do you think. Did he want to make the mess to make things more challenging for someone to clean up before leaving his life or was there somebody else?"

"Hm, most suicidal subjects make everything neat and tidy and want to make sure its EASY cleanup. Often times, they'll even fold and put away their clothes before killing themselves. Then again, there is always that 1% that does things differently."
Brian began photographing and documenting the more obvious stuff, noting temperature and other such tiresome details.
"Hey, does anyone know if the coroner pronounced yet?" Brian asked to no one in particular. He peered at the body. Slit wrists. The poor man had bled out on the carpet in the middle of the room. There was an Exacto knife lying right next to him. "Hey Rhia," Brian called, "there's a note sticking out of his shirt pocket!"

While Brian had been photographing and documentating the crime scene, Rhia had looked around for anything unusual. She examined the floor, the walls...and found a tiny wet spot.
"Look, look, look, what we've got here..." She put another tag on the floor. Before she could look at it closer, she was distracted by Brian's voice. Rhia spun around and approached the dead man. Now, she saw the note, too. Carefully, not to destroy any evidence she pulled the piece of paper out of his pocket. What catched her immediately was, that it was so neatly folded, that it made a perfect square without any loose ends. "Perfect square..." she murmered. When she opened it carefully, all she found were few words scribbled in a hasty hand. "Forgive me, Sam!" she read out aloud. Sam? It wouldn't be her friend Sam...nope, too much coincidence... Despite the fact she pulled out her mobile to call her number. "Hey Sam. We'll need you as a hand writing expert...the good-bye-letter, you know?" After her reassuring answer she hung up.
"What I don't get is how could someone dying scribble such a note and then fold it to a perfect square?" When she turned around to meet Brian's eyes, her face looked puzzled.
"By the way... I found a wet spot on the wall... looks like somebody did some cleaning short time ago..."

Doreen entered the house, swiping away flies and feeling very irritated.
"Oh God, could someone please call the M.E. to bring that body away?" she snapped to one of the officers.
One of them looked a little frightened and ran out of the room to do so.
Feeling a little pleased with herself, she turned to fave Rhia and Brian who were busy processing the scene.
