Rhia sighed out of relief. "Thanks, Brian. I owe you! See you.", she hung up and got her jacket from the hook. Quickly she made her way to the car and drove to the address she had gotten. When she arrived there, she noticed Brian's Mustang already standing there. With large steps she had reached it to knock onto the driver's window.
"Allright, I'm here. Let's get started...", she winked at him and waited until he had gotten out. Together they walked to the house. Rhia pressed the button and heard a bell ringing in the house.
"Mr. Irving?", she called out. "NEw York Crimelab, we'd like to ask you a few questions."
No answer.
"Shall we get in?" Rhia turned her head to Brian.

"We'd need a warrant... they said they'd send someone over with the papers as soon as the judge signed them..." And, as if on cue, an NYPD patrol unit pulled up and an officer stepped out, a manilla folder in hand. He gave it over to Rhia, who checked to make sure everything was in order. The officer got back into his car. Brian ran over and asked, "Hey, aren't you going to help us clear the house? We're just forensic investigators, you know."
The officer replied, "We have a shooting to respond to. Plus, you're Shefkowitz, right? Yeah, I heard all about the way you can handle a gun. You'll do fine. Call for backup if you need it."
Brian glared at him. "The incident in which I was involved required my operation of a firearm to save my own life. I'm not an action hero. Have you ever shot anyone, officer?"
"No, and I hope I never have to. Just do your job and let me do mine. I'm sorry, we can't help you right now." And with that, the officer drove off.
Brian swore and drew his gun, and lined up at the door, knocking on it loudly. "New York Crime Lab, please answer the door!" Again, not a sound. Brian looked over his shoulder at Rhia. "Ready?" He asked, taking a deep breath.

Rhia had also drewn her gun. She nodded silently. Slowly she reached out to turn the doorknob. No response - the door was locked. She sighed.
"Shall we look for another way...or just move away the barrier?", she asked cocking an eyebrow.

Brian winked at her. He straightened up, and slammed a well-placed kick just to the left of the doorknob, applying the maximum amount of kinetic energy to the door. It blasted open and slammed into the wall.
Brian rushed into the room, gun at full ready, and swept it back and forth...

Rhia followed close. "Wow, you're really strong...", she muttered, searching the scene and listening for noices. But there was absolutely nothing. Together they searched the ground floor - all they found were some old bills. Anything else was very clean.
"Let's get upstairs...", she sighed and started to climb the stairs. A strange smell got into her nose and she sped up. Pushing a room door open with one of her feet, she pointed into it with her gun, just to let it sink down when she saw the body in there. It was definitely the body of a man, he was lying in a pool of blood. When she looked closer, she noticed two eyes staring at her. She got closer and received a hiss. . Backing up she had to collect herself. A cat was sitting on the stomach of the body.
Bugger. Now it's body warmth has influenced the one from the vic...another challenge for Sheldon, then...
"Have you ever seen such a thing?", Rhia shook her head and carefully stepped closer.

Brian sighed when he saw the body, and holstered his weapon. Was it a sigh of sorrow for the body, or a sigh of relief that they didn't need to use their guns? Brian wasn't sure.
"Well, I've heard of housepets feeling territorial about their owners even after their owners have died, but I've never had to take a cat in as evidence before. Unfortunately, we'll have to... that's one angry cat, and my guess is it might have tried to attack our suspect," Brian said. "I'll go grab out crime kits and we can start processing."
He walked back outside, grabbed the kits, set up crime scene tape around the house, and walked back upstairs, handing Rhia her kit. Brian started taking photographs.

While Brian went downstairs, Rhia tried to calm the cat down. She talked to her quietly, not moving closer, but only slowly extracting one arm to her. Another hiss. Rhia sighed, when she didn't make any progress. She had to get this cat down from the body, but without moving anything. And the cat shouldn't run away, too. Then something came to her mind. Hadn't she seen some cat food in the kitchen? Quickly she got something and now extricated her arm with some fodder in her hand. The cat still hissed at her but snuffled. The hissing became quieter and finally the cat took some fodder, still eyeing Rhia suspiciously. She slowly brought her other hand to the cat's head. First, it pulled away, but then it started purring and enjoying the pats.
When Brian arrived with the two kits of them, Rhia was holding the cat in her hands. "Thank you Brian. Look, I managed to tame that tiger...", she smiled and stroke the animal. "I think I will process her, then. Maybe I'll find some epithelial layers under her claws, but I doubt it. Cats are so tidy..."
While Brian was taking photographs, Rhia carefully processed the claws. The cat only looked at her, still purring. Suddenly something came into her mind.
"Why didn't the murderer killed the cat, too? When they had really been angry - which shows the amount of the blood - why didn't they just slaughter his animal, too? Maybe they're animal lovers..."

Brian frowned as he measured the body. "Humans are animals, too. Maybe something scared him off... or maybe it was a crime of passion, and the passion faded as soon as the victim was dead." Brian took the measurements down in his notebook. He took the victim's wallet out of his pocket and looked at the driver's license.
Brian looked over at Rhia, his eyes big. "I think we have a problem. This isn't Mr. Irving. This is George Gramwell... no idea who he is, or why he's here."
Brian called Sheldon. "Doc? We got another friend for you. You doin' ok?" Brian gave him the address, and continued processing the scene.

"You think we'll get an arrest warrant for Mr. Irving with a dead body in his house?", Rhia asked jokingly, after she hadn't found anything underneath the cat's claws. She let it jump down and pulled out her mobile.
"Yeah, hi Detective. We need an arrest warrant for a certain Mr. Raymond Irving?", she listened to the respond. "You damn will. We just found a man killed in his house. Sure you'll do!", she was nearly screaming now. "Thanks." she let the mobile snap closed and breathed furiously. "Just because I'm not a man...", she muttered under her breath, shaking her head wildly.

"Hey Rhia," Brian said when she had hung up the phone. "Does this tattoo look familiar to you?" He pointed to the inside of Gramwell's forearm. "Looks like we might have some cult activity going on here. When we get back to the lab, I'll check the internet, see what I can dig up. It might give us a lead. But yeah. Irving is definitely a suspect right now. We can't touch the body yet, but the rest of his house is fair game. Help me check the kitchen for a missing knife."
Brian walked downstairs, Rhia close behind him.

They started to look around in the kitchen. A drawer, where every kind of knives was stored, was pulled open. One of the largest ones was missing.
"Well, he or she must've known where Mr. Irving has his knives...", Rhia marked and took a photo of every possible angle. "Obviously the murderer took it with them...but wait! There are no blood drops to be seen, nowhere!", she exclaimed. "So, he or she must've either brought something to take the weapon with them afterwards or they have cleaned it..."
Rhia carefully pulled open the bin. She tilted her head and took out a piece of linen soaked with blood. "At least something...", she murmured and bagged it, after she had taken a blood sample. "MAybe we're lucky and they left us a fingerprint..."

"Good thinking. Most criminals still don't realize that they can leave fingerprints on linen. Say, we haven't heard from the other CSI's in a while. I wonder what they're up to..."

"Well, Tori insisted on going to the vic's appartment. And since I sent some policemen with her, I had no objections. Maybe she found something interesting...", Rhia said shrugging.
"You wanna go back to Myka? I can wait for Sheldon, if you want..." she added frowning.

Brian shook his head. "Thanks," he said, "but I'm sure they're fine. We have a bunch of evidence we need to collect here. I really wish Sheldon would hurry up, but I do feel bad. He's busy all of a sudden."

Rhia laughed. "Oh yeah...but he was always complaining about too little work, wasn't he?", she remarked still smiling. "So...what else do we have here?", she looked around in the kitchen. "Wait, we still don't know how the killer entered the house. Either they had a key or...there is a second entrance..." She started walking into the direction of the living room.
