Jade laughed, despite feeling nervous. "If I ever get the chance to get a few hits in, I'll hit him once for you. How's that sound? But don't worry. I'm be sure not to get hurt that badly."

Zora heard Rhia and the others talking in the hall. "I have the results on that boot print I found at the scene." she said and paused waiting for Rhia to finish her conversation before telling her all that she knew.

Brian radioed his instructions to the SWAT team while Jade went out to her car. He didn't tell her how many there would be, or where they would be positioned. He didn't want her looking for them with Ryuku watching.
He loaded and cocked his gun with a heavy metallic click, and slid it into his shoulder holster. He stepped out, but in the doorway of Sam's office, he stopped, and looked over his shoulder, at Rhia. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but, decided against it, and let his eyes linger on hers for a second instead. Inhaling deeply, he turned his head forward again and stepped out into the hallway.
He let the adrenaline take over... he didn't want it to be present when he was out there with Ryuku. His vision tunneled, and his senses heightened. His heavy black boots seemed to make thunderclaps that echoed down the hallway with each step. He imagined he could feel every kevlar fiber in his vest. And his gun felt cold and heavy, although it wasn't even touching his skin. He patted it, reassuring himself.
Was it ironic that the safety was off, considering there was no safety where he and Jade were headed?

She sat in her car for some time, trying to control her nerves. She knew that she shouldn't get worked up because a clouded head would lead to bad judgement, and she didn't want to risk having her sister killed because of a mistake. Calming herself, she started her car and headed to her destination, unsure of what would take place when she arrived.

Sam glanced at Zora telling Rhia she found results on the boot print. "Okay, please do tell" she said before Rhia could say anything. "And then I'll be off trying to figure out the codes in what Brian found."

Driving towards the rendezvous point, Brian had an epiphany. He quickly called Rhia, and quickly told her what he just realized: "We have Jade's phone number on record, because she's a crime lab employee. That means we automatically have access to her phone records, which means we can get Ryuku's number, since he had to use a cell phone to text her, which means we can trace him! We know he is Japanese, so, based on my limited knowledge of profiling here, he wouldn't settle for an old phone -- he'd have a newer one, with a GPS receiver. But, he's involved in Shen Jing Bing, which has a really "old school" methodology to their work -- therefore, they have weak spots when it comes to technology. I'm willing to bet we can track Ryuku's position... if anyone in there is good with computers, let them know!"
Brian hung up, and parked his car in an alley, covering it with one of those weather-resistant shields. He then walked over to the traffic light at the corner of the intersection, and put his plan to work. He was dressed in blue jeans and had a long coat on. Suddenly, a utility vehicle with a cherry picker pulled up. The side of the truck bared the state logo, and read "New York City Utility Maintenance." Of course, it was being driven by a SWAT officer, but nobody else knew that.
Brian removed his coat, revealing a black t-shirt and an orange construction vest. That would hide the fact that he was wearing a bullet-proof vest under his shirt, and the fact that he was armed with a gun in a shoulder holster. He also had a leather tool belt strapped to his waist. He grabbed a hard hat from the truck, stepped into the "bucket" of the cherry picker, and was lifted up to the traffic light.
To anyone walking by, it looked like routine work on the traffic signal. But Brian was taking the traffic camera and pointing it towards where he knew Jade would meet Ryuku in a few minutes. He then took out some tools and pretended to work on the light, keeping an eye on the warehouse. He saw Jade's car in the distance, getting closer.
This was it.

She took a deep breath as she shut off the engine. She knew that one false move would result in the harm of her sister. She had to keep a clear head or else the entire thing could take a turn for the worst. No one knew, but she had two swords strapped on her back, a memento from her training in Japan. She always had them with her, in case she needed to defend herself. If Ryuko attacked her, she would be ready. Stepping out of the car, she headed towards the spot where she waited for her brother and possibly sister.

Zora nodded and began, "The boot actually belongs to a guard from the jail. A man named James Burkatt. Not too unusual correct? Well the thing was that Mr. Burkatt is not on the work schedule for the evening of the break out. So the question becomes, why was he there?"

Before Zora could start talking, Rhia's phone rang. She listened eagery to Brian's words, nodded a few times and finally smiled.
"Good idea... and hey, be careful!", she added quietly, before she hung up to listen to her co-workers.
"That's a good question, Zora. Be sure to investigate it thouroughly...", she said to her. Then she turned to Sam.
"Brian says we could trace Ryuku's postion through his cell phone, because we have access to Jade's phone record... I'll see what I can do there...", with these words she had turned around to go into her lab.

"What in the sphincter of Hell is she playing at?" Brian muttered under his breath, as Jade stepped out of her car. He was a detective; he was a highly trained observer, vastly skilled at noticing details and hidden clues. But he didn't need any special training to notice what could only be swords strapped to Jade's back. He could easily make out the exact lengths from his vantage point atop the traffic light.
"Element six-four, be advised, Jade is armed with katanas," Brian whispered into the microphone clipped to his collar. "Say again, detective?" "Chick's got swords," Brian snapped back. He then did his best to ignore the loud string of profanities from most of the SWAT officers hiding around the scene. They all knew this was bad news. Negotiations are 90% emotions, and 10% logic. It was the negotiator's job to keep the suspect calm, because calm led to peaceful resolutions. Most of the time, the suspect needs to still feel in control to remain calm.
But now that Jade was armed, she would be confident, she would give off the sense that she was in control, and that could elevate Ryuku to violence. And Ryuku was certainly the type that would bring a gun to a knife fight.
"Dammit Jade, this is New York, not Japan!" Brian hissed through clenched teeth, though he knew he could not step in now -- a man was stepping out of the warehouse now, a large Asian man beside him. Brian noticed the bodyguard had a sawed-off shotgun and plenty of shells... and a walkie talkie in his shirt pocket.
"Six-four be advised: bodyguard is armed with shotgun and walkie talkie; backup may be on scene. I repeat, there may be more thugs on scene." Brian kept the traffic camera aimed at Jade and Ryuku... he wasn't sure how many witnesses would be left to explain just what happened that day. It was going to hell in a handbasket, fast.

She kept her eyes on her brother as he approached her, stopping a few feet away. His bodyguard kept his hand on the shotgun.
Ryuko smiled and bowed. "Ah, Kistuko. I'm glad you came. I haven't seen you since we lived in Japan."
She growled softly when he called her by her nickname. "You have no right to call me that, and you know it. Where's Yukiko?"
He laughed. "You get right to the point, don't you? Very well. She's safe and sound. No need to worry about her, since you should really be worrying about yourself. I can't believe you came here by yourself and unarmed. Unlike me, you never think things through."
His bodyguard grinned and pointed the shotgun at Jade, wanting to see what she would do. She looked at the gun and smiled. In a minute, she had the guard unarmed and laying flat on the ground with his own weapon pointed at him. "Who said I never think things through? Besides, unlike you, I actually continued my training during my spare time." She grabbed the walkie-talkie from the guard and threw it aside. "I can't have you calling for back-up, now can I?"
Ryuko just smiled. "So is this going to be like old times then? One on one match between the two of us?"
Jade looked at her brother. "Just like in Japan."

Brian was simply stunned by the speed with which Jade had reacted to the shotgun. To draw a weapon and use it faster than a trained bodyguard could pull a trigger was simply... legendary. But not all was as it seemed. Ryuku, while maintaining the air of an honorable man, was most certainly not. A shot rang out from the warehouse rooftop, the bullet slamming into the ground inches from Jade's heel, kicking up concrete dust. It was a Shen Jing Bing sniper, and he was trying to kill Jade!
Brian barely had time to swear before the SWAT sniper he had posted on site opened up. Having superior weapons and training, the SWAT sniper felled the Shen Jing Bing gunman with only one, loud shot. That's the way it was with police - Brian knew the SWAT sniper was under an obligation to open fire, based upon the rules of engagement set forth by the state of New York. But now Ryuku and his men knew Jade had betrayed them by bringing police backup.
Using the bullet as a distraction, Ryuku swiftly kicked Jade's knee, forcing her to kneel with the pain. Having bought his time, he turned and fled. Brian slid down the traffic pole, howling in pain as the friction burned his hands. Running in front of the warehouse, he grabbed Jade's arm and pulled her behind a parked car as gunfire erupted around them briefly.
The roar of battle died down, leaving the empty streets echoing with Jade's cries.
"Fool!" She was spitting at Brian. "I could have had him! I could have saved my sister! You --" Brian pointed his gun at her, silencing her next retort.
"I should have you arrested for that, Jade. You are a criminalist, not a -- a --" Brian faltered for the right word, "Not a ninja. What you did could be considered attempted murder, and you better pray that we are able to recover the footage from the traffic camera to prove that it was in self defense."
Her nostrils flared angrily as she caught her breath. Her icy gaze never left Brian's. He continued, "It is my responsibility to ensure your safety. Please don't toy with that fact, ever again."
"But Yukiko! How are we going to save her now? We do not know where Ryuku is--"
"Ah, yes we do. Someone is tracing the GPS in his cell phone as we speak. Which means we can have him arrested within sixty seconds of wherever he stops. His time as a free man is severely limited now. So, in the meantime, we have several dead bodies of Shen Jing Bing operatives to process in an abandoned warehouse, thanks to your cute little stunt."
Brian was angry with Jade, and he knew she was furious with him. She would probably never forgive him for pulling her away and letting SWAT snipers take care of Shen Jing Bing. But he would never have been able to forgive himself if he had let her kill Ryuku, or worse, been killed herself.
"Jade," he said, more calmly, "We do not bring justice here by way of the sword. You were hired because you possessed a weapon far sharper than any katana: your mind." Brian stood, and surveyed the scene. The bodyguard lay dead where Jade had knocked him to the ground, a bullet wound in his chest. His finger was dangerously close to the trigger of his shotgun. The Shen Jing Bing sniper couldn't be seen from here, but he was dead somewhere on the roof. Brian also noticed another dead body behind a tree.
Great. They might as well have publicly declared war on Shen Jing Bing.
Brian reported in with the events. People were starting to gather, and the SWAT officers were doing all they could to keep curious eyes away from the scene.

While Rhia was tracing down the cell phone of Ryuku, she suddenly noticed something, which made her feel uneasy. Quickly her own phone was snapped open and she dialled Brian's number.
"He's moving north at a very high speed. What the hell happened?", her voice was icecold. The rapid movement meant he was sitting in a car, trying to get away as quick as possible. And to her it meant only one thing: something did terribly go wrong...

Jade sighed. She knew Brian was right. If she had just talked to him instead of fighting, he wouldn't have gotten away. Then something dawned on her. In an instant, she knew exactly where her brother was headed. The last place anyone would look for him: her own house. Running to her car, she got in and started the engine, speeding towards home. She called up Brian. "Listen, I'm sorry that I messed up, but I know where he's going. He's headed towards my house, thinking no one's going to get him there. I need as much back-up as possible. Please, I'm asking for this because I'm trying to make it right."

"Jade..." Brian started. He knew how much she wanted to bring him in. He could see the determination and passion in her eyes, hear the anxiety in her voice. "Jade, it's a conflict of interest. You can't arrest him, or process the scene at your house... the district attorney would throw his case right out the window and he'd be scott free."
She looked down, clearly disappointed.
"But," Brian began again, "You can go with the SWAT officers to your house. They will arrest him, and you can see your sister. But only if you promise to take her back to the crime lab to talk to her about Ryuku and his gang. Can you promise me that?"
She nodded, the fire back in her eyes. Brian gave her a quick nod, and signaled the SWAT team to take her to her house. They helped her into the SWAT truck and drove off, lights blazing and sirens blaring. Brian stayed behind to watch the scene until CSI could show up. And then he noticed his phone was vibrating. He picked it up quickly.
"Sorry Rhia -- it hit the fan out here. Jade brought swords with her and was about to slice Ryuku and his bodyguard. There were two other Shen Jing Bing gunmen out here that opened fire, and our SWAT guys took care of them. So, send someone out to the warehouse. We have three dead bodies with gunshot wounds. But the operatives may have more information about Shen Jing Bing for us... perhaps something to help us break the code."
Brian took a deep breath, steadying himself. "Rhia... Jade's gone with SWAT. She's positive he's heading towards her house, and most likely has Yukiko hostage there. I let her go on the condition that she brings her sister back to the crime lab, and I told her she must let SWAT arrest Ryuku."
Brian paused, sensing her next question.
"I'm alright, Rhia," he said quietly. But his hands were shaking.
