Hi,
I'm doing a stem cell research project and I remember the CSI team argues with the woman Dr. who tries to get single woman to impregnate theselves with the leftover sperm samples so that no sperm is "wasted"
I think it was Catherine who brings up a quote about a bible passage that says human must have blood in it to be considered alive, then states embryo's don't have blood until a specific amount of weeks.
If anyone could find that transcript or knows the bible passage or number of weeks i'd love to know so I could use that in my essay.
Thanks Folks

The quote Grissom used was from Leviticus 17:11
In the episode, Grissom said to Catherine "You should have cited Leviticus 17:11 'the life of the flesh is in the blood' " He goes on to add himself that "taken literally, life doesn't begin when sperm meets the egg, but 18days later when the embryo is infused with blood" (those are Grissom's own words).
I looked it up in the New International Version of the Bible where it actually says "Lev 17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life." If you take this statement in the entire context it's given in that section of the Bible - God is speaking to Moses and instructing him on why Israelites shouldn't EAT blood - it's not really talking about when LIFE BEGINS.
One could make the argument that it DOES say that God says to Moses that the "...life of a creature is in the blood...". I'm just pointing out that it was slightly taken out of context but you can look it up yourself and see what you think...
good luck with your research!
