*DISCLAIMER: I do not own anything in this story except my OC, Diana Flack, and the story-line.*
~My 2nd CSI:NY fan fic, a follow up from my first one, Action Speaks Louder Than Words and the Diana/Danny relationship. I was in a rush to write this so enjoy!~
Diana Flack saw her boyfriend, Danny Messer, bending over a piece of newspaper. Grinning gleefully, she sneaked up on him, removed his glasses and covered his eyes with her hands.
“Guess who?” she sang, smiling.
“An annoying young lady by the name of Peggy Sue.”
“No, you idiot!” she said, laughing and hitting him on the arm. He turned around and smiled at her.
“Can I have my glasses back now, Diana?” he asked.
“Nuh-uh,” she said, smiling. “But… it’ll cost you a kiss.” Before she knew it, Danny’s lips caught hers in a slow kiss. When they broke away, she retrieved the glasses from her back pocket and handed them to Danny.
“Thanks,” he said, smiling at her.
“So, whatcha reading?” she asked, leaning in to see the newspaper.
“Oh… er… nothing,” he said, snatching the newspaper from her eyes.
“What? Aww… tell me Danny,” she begged, tugging at his sleeve.
“Nope.”
“Please?”
He kissed her again and broke away, looking at her. “I’ll tell you tonight.”
“Tonight?”
“Yes, tonight. I’ll pick you up from your house at around 8. We’re going for a dinner at an Italian restaurant.”
“Will I know my surprise then?”
“You will. See you tonight.”
“Yeah, you too.”
She watched him walk towards Mac Taylor, the supervisor, to tell him something about a case. Diana leaned on the table. Even though she and Danny have been together for a year, he was sometimes hard to read.
“Hey,” said Aiden Burn, her good friend and colleague. “You look a bit troubled.”
“It’s Danny.”
“What? What’s wrong? Are you two gonna break up? Please don’t; you two are just too cute-“
Diana waved her hands for silence. “Whoa whoa… Aiden; Danny and I are fine.”
“Oh, that’s good to hear. So what’s the problem?”
“Danny’s been acting weird lately.”
“As in?”
“He suddenly seems busy whenever I’m around. It’s like he’s hiding something from me.”
“He’s planning a surprise for you.”
“He is?”
“Yeah. Don was like that to me too when we started dating. Man, he was clumsy that time. Tripping over stuff, getting tongue-tied, spilling his coffee, hand cuffing the wrong guy…”
“And what was his surprise?”
Aiden smiled at her. “It’s… a secret. I can’t tell you. Your brother will kill me later.”
Diana just laughed as Aiden walked off towards Don. He saw Diana and waved at her and she waved back. Looks like she’ll just have to wait for Danny’s surprise tonight.
LATER THAT NIGHT…
“You look all dress up,” said Don as he watched his younger sister come down the stairs.
“Danny’s taking me out for dinner tonight,” said Diana. She was wearing a dark blue knee-length dress with sapphire earrings and a matching necklace.
“Ahhh… I see,” said Don and turned his attention back towards the TV. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Don got up and opened the door. There stood Danny dressed in a white button-down t-shirt and black pants. An untied bowtie was on his collar.
“Hey Don. Is Diana ready?”
“Yeah she is.”
Diana came towards the front door and smiled at Danny.
“Ready?” he asked.
“Sure.”
She held his arm as he walked her towards his car.
“Have fun you two!” shouted Don before closing the door. Diana swore that she heard him laugh. Diana and Danny drove to a really fancy Italian restaurant. Danny reserved a table which is far into the corner. It was dark, with a candle just between them. They sat down and went through the menu. After a few minutes, a waiter came to take their order.
“You two ready to order?” he asked in an Italian accent.
“I’ll have the Bolognese spaghetti, please,” said Danny.
“I’ll have lasagna,” said Diana.
“How about wine?” asked the waiter.
“The best one you have,” said Danny. The waiter smiled and went off towards the kitchen.
Diana looked at Danny and smiled. As he reached out to hold her hand, he accidentally knocked the candle down, almost creating a fire.
“Aw, shit,” he muttered, pouring water on it.
“It’s ok; really. We always have people like that,” said the waiter, who arrived with the wine bottle. He uncorked the bottle and poured each into Diana’s and Danny’s wine glass. As he left, Danny lifted his glass.
“A toast; to… whatever it is we’re toasting for.”
Diana giggled and lifted her glass. By accident, again, Danny accidentally knocked her glass too hard and wine spilt all over her dress.
“God… Diana, I’m so sorry,” said Danny, dabbing at her with a napkin; looking embarrassed.
“No Danny, it’s ok. I’ll go clean up in the ladies’ room, aight?”
“Ok.”
Diana got up and walked towards the washroom, sprinkling s little water on her dress and using a tissue to absorb the water. Suddenly her cell phone rang.
“Flack,” she said when she answered it.
“Gosh, you sound like Don.”
“Aiden? Why are you calling me?”
“Nah, just wondering how’s your date with Danny.”
“He almost burned the table and spilt wine all over me.”
Aiden just laughed. “Hang in there. Danny will surprise you. Just wait.”
“Hmph. I hope so. Where are you anyway?”
“Oh, just watching a movie with Don over here. Nothing special, really.”
“Uh-huh. Well, gotta go. I hope Danny didn’t cause an earthquake.”
Aiden laughed. “Ok, bye.” She hanged up. Diana walked out of the room and went back to the table. Danny was playing with his food. Her lasagna was getting cold.
“Hi, I’m back,” she said, smiling.
“Great. Your food’s getting cold.”
They ate in an awkward silence, which was strange. After they ate, Danny asked for the check and used his credit card to pay the bill. As they got up to leave, Danny suddenly held Diana’s arm.
“Diana, there’s something I wanna ask you.”
“Er… ok.”
He got down on one knee and took out a velvet box from his pocket. He opened it and Diana saw the most beautiful diamond ring in it.
“Diana; will you marry me?” he asked, holding the ring in one hand and the other hand holding hers. Diana’s eyes were filled with tears. Danny looked at her questioningly.
“Yes; yes, I will marry you, Danny,” she said, half-smiling and half-crying. Danny smiled and slid the ring onto her finger. It was a perfect fit. He got up, smiled and the two couple kissed each other; ignoring that people were watching them and applauding. But Diana didn’t care. As long as Danny’s watching her, that’s all that mattered.
