Title: Blue Eyes
Author: Doreen
Genre: Romance/Tragedy
Pairing: Flack/Aiden
Summary: Flack's last goodbye to Aiden.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to CSI:NY.
Author's note: Ironically, I wrote this just a few weeks before I found out about how Aiden got "taken care" off. This is an entirely different one though; which revolves around Flack/Aiden.
“Mr. Flack?” said the surgeon, Dr. Carey.
Don Flack looked up. “Detective,” he corrected.
“Detective Flack -”
“Is she alright? Did she make it?” Flack asked anxiously, getting up.
Dr. Carey looked sad.
“Detective, we did all we could but…”
“But WHAT?” Flack said, dreading the answer.
“But we couldn’t save her.”
Flack felt as if he just received a punch to the face. He struggled to remain strong.
“The bullet was too deep inside her.”
Flack looked down and just nodded.
“I’m sorry, Detective Flack. I really am. My team and I tried our best.”
Flack nodded again. Then he looked up at him.
“Can I see her? Just for one last time?”
Dr. Carey looked into Flack’s eyes and felt a stab of sympathy. He slowly opened the door and gestured Flack to go in. Flack went in and the doctor closed the door so that Flack could have a little privacy.
Flack looked down at the woman in lying in the bed in front of him. Her eyes were closed. Flack knew that he could never see those eyes open again every morning. He knew that he could never wake up every morning, lying next to her. He knew that she was gone.
“Hey,” he said softly, lightly touching her hand.
“I know you can’t hear me but… I – I just wanted to tell you how much I love you. You’re the most amazing woman I’ve ever met. You’re funny, smart and beautiful. Seriously, you can have any guy you want at just a snap of your fingers but for some strange, abnormal reason, you chose me,” he said, laughing softly.
“Being with you for the five years of my life is like a lifetime of pleasure. Sure, we may have our ups and downs and fights, but we got through everything. This only strengthened our relationship and our love for each other just got stronger. You were always there for me, even in the most complicated and tough situations. You stood by me through thick and thin.”
He stopped talking for a few minutes and looked at her. His hand never left hers. He felt tears threatening to come down but he blinked hard several times to stop them. He gently used his hand to sweep a strand of hair from Aiden’s face.
“What I want to say is I love you. I love you with all my heart, Aiden. Nothing in the world – in the universe - can change the way I feel about you.
With that, he leaned down and gave her a soft kiss. The door opened and Dr. Carey walked inside the room.
“Detective, it’s time,” he said.
Flack sighed and let go of Aiden’s hand. He looked at her for one last time and walked away.
Mac Taylor, Stella Bonasera, Sheldon Hawkes and Danny Messer were already waiting outside. All of them had and sad looks on their face.
Without muttering a single word to them, Flack just nodded at them. They too didn't say anything. They know how he felt.
Flack made a quick departure and left for the entrance of the hospital. It was raining. Once outside, he leaned on the wall. He was getting wet, but he didn’t care. He remembered all the good times he had with Aiden. He remembered the day he first laid eyes on her. She was “The One” for him, and she for him. The woman he loved was gone from his life forever.
He couldn't take it anymore. He let the tears fall from those blue eyes.
