Sam searched the forum for all the names Jade had mentioned or that popped up as seeming questionable. Snow Flower, DarkKnight, Moon Child and Sempai and the two that Jade wanted to be warned about, Dragons and Shadow Fox. And of course Blackbird and Samurai.
Blackbird was of course James, and Samurai was Ryuko. Sam found out that they had registered under the names of a Frederick Jameson and a Yamada Taro. Snow Flower had been mentioned in a couple of conversation, but she had never registered or reacted to anything. DarkKnight apparently was the one with the most influence of all of them, since he had reacted the most and his messages seemed to consist only of orders to the others. The name on the profile turned out to be a Thomas Armstrong. Moonchild also had posted an entry a couple of times, the registered name was Juan Perez. Sempai was also being talked about but had never posted an entry. Though was registered under the name of Leslie Johnson. Most of these names seemed like just a creative variation of "John Smith", including some in other languages. Because a bit of googling told Sam that Yamada Taro was synonymous to John Smith and Juan Perez just seemed pretty obvious. The name Leslie was unfortunately a unisex one, and a quick glance on the profile didn't really seem to help. The user of that profile probably had ticked the box with "don't show" as had all the others on as many options as possible. Sam also quickly found out that "Waterside" wasn't the only place they mentioned, others, like "The Cellar", "The Thinktank" and "The Dump" were also mentioned, and they spoke about people in code. Sam quickly figured out by looking at the context of some entries that "the Thinktank" was probably something to do with the police, perhaps even the crime lab, because they referred to "The Thinktank" with words as: "Think they know everything" or "Suckers are convinced they can get us". Deep inside, she felt a little proud that they called them "The Thinktank" in such a fashion. The things she did understand and know about the human psyche told her they were a little scared to get caught. The codes of the people they talked about were mostly pretty simple though way too broad: they talked about "the accountant", "the lawyer", "the politician" and more of those words. Sam knew it would be a total waste of time to look up all accountants, lawyer and politicians in New York City. She quickly scanned the entries of the members. Apparently, DarkKnight passed the orders of people in higher places to the others; Moon Child, Blackbird and Samurai seemed to be in the same position and received DarkKnight's orders, discussing them, telling each other what to do and more of that kind of stuff. Snow Flower was being discussed, but that was of course Jade's sister - Sempai was also discussed, and sometimes was told to go see someone - Sam guessed it was the spokesperson, who might bribe and threaten so-called 'honorable' citizens. Samurai was Ryuko, Blackbird was James and Moon Child was probably one of the Marquez-brothers, or a person that passed them the orders, in case they were in a situation in which they could not just use the Internet. Only remained DarkKnight as a total stranger and Sempai also seemed unknown. Probably, Sempai was someone who could get close to others without being suspected of criminal intent. Someone who could approach accountants, lawyers, politician - a journalist, perhaps? Leslie remained a unisex name... it was possible, everything was possible, but how real seemed this thought?
Sam had left the best for last: it wasn't until now that she started searching for Dragons and Shadow Fox. They hadn't posted any entry whatsoever, but they had also registered. Sam made a mental note to tell Jade. But since Jade and Brian were interrogating Daniel Miller at this moment, she couldn't tell her. Where did Miller fit in anyway? He wasn't being discussed (or at least, no code that could be him was discussed) nor did any of the made-up profiles seemed to fit him. Unless he had been approached by some of the 'higher up' Shen Jing Bing members to participate and the others had to accept anyway and were forbidden to talk about anything online. But that seemed like a lot of work, especially when you thought of the outbreak, which hadn't been that long ago. Could he perhaps be DarkKnight? But that would make him a very important person within Shen Jing Bing, unless Shen Jing Bing was that much bigger than they thought and these persons they were after just formed one little branch of the entire tree of hierarchy. Sam scribbled everything she could think of down on a little notebook and walked over to the interrogation room. It wouldn't hurt to watch the thing through the one-way mirror and the minute they would end interrogating, she could tell them right away.
