They reached her house and SWAT got into position around the perimeter. One member broke in the door, and they stormed the place. Serching every room, they didn't find Ryuko or Yukiko. Instead they found a note addressed to Jade. They withdrew from the house and one handed the note to her. "We found this inside, but we couldn't find him or your sister."
She took the note and opened it. She read it quickly then turned to the one handed it to her. "We need to get back to the lab immediately. I have to show this to the others."
They climbed back in the vehicle and drove to the lab. She jumped out and ram straight to find Sam. Upon reaching her 'lab', she threw open the door, her eyes giving an icy feeling. "That bastard! He moved my sister! And he's challenging me to get her back!" She growled softly and started pacing. "And what's worse, they're calling me by code name. To them, I'm known as Shadow Fox."

"I don't know" Sam answered. "Perhaps. But as long as we're not sure, I don't want to take any risks. I want to play this by the book, to put them all behind bars once and for all. And, it's been some minutes since Brian printed these pages, so they could as well have moved by now." The sound of someone hurrying toward the lab sounded and Jade came running through the doors. Sam looked at her. "Okay, calm down. Let me see that note. You're Shadow Fox, huh? Okay, I have a question for you: does Ryuko ever get called Samurai or so? Because there's been a conversation on a forum and it's between Blackbird, who's obviously James and one Samurai. And there's a third person, called DarkKnight. Do you have any idea who might be that? And since you're known to them as Shadow Fox, does Yukiko have a code name as well? More important still, do you know any more code names or words that might help us in this search?" Behind her, Lilly grabbed another sheet of paper from the pile. Sam just looked at it and then at Jade. "They're talking about you here. Let's see what they have to say. Blackbird tells Samurai to don't do anything stupid and be prepared. I guess they're talking about the kidnapping of Yukiko here. But it could as well be anything else. That's the horror with codes, you can never be sure." She quickly glanced at the note Jade held. "At least we have confirmation that James has in fact met Ryuko and that they might have dropped by James's apartment or perhaps even his old law firm." She paused and smiled. "It's written with a Parker 51 Mark III. And that's James's pen of choice, Ryuko might've borrowed it." She paused again. "And I hope you will all excuse me for a moment. Brian, can I talk to you for a second?"

"Sure thing," Brian said, looking up from an evidence table. He had laid out every single razor blade and had sprayed them all with luminol... but found no trace of blood. They were clean razors. Interesting... he could investigate them little by little. For now, he walked over to Sam, peeling off his latex gloves.

"Ryuko was known as Samurai back in Japan, so I guess that he brought that nickname with him. When we were little, I called Yukiko Flower, cause her real name's Setsuka, meaning Snow Flower. But I can't think of anyone who called themselves DarkKnight." She thought for a minute. "As for any other code names that I know of, there's Moon Child and Sempai, but if there's any mention of Dragons referring to Shadow Fox, please let me know."

Sam looked at Brian. "I might have been a bit insensitive, when I asked you about the killing of those two men. How I asked it wasn't really that... well put, to say it like that. It's just... I wasn't totally sure anymore, because, well, it's already a year ago and some things just have been quite chaotic. So, I wanted to tell you I'm sorry for asking it that way and reminding you of it. I'm sure it must have been hard, and it would traumatize everyone. Even strong people like you. So I'm really sorry."

"You CSIs notice everything," Brian said, realizing she sensed his unease. "But, really, don't worry about it. I did what I had to in order to survive. I just don't give up... ever. It's who I am."
And just then, someone from the A/V lab ran up to him and said "I found it, detective. Just like you said it would be!"
"For instance, Sam," Brian continued with a smile this time, "I've been working hard on these razors. Or, at least, I got the interns to do some hard work for me. I had this theory about the razors, and, for once today, I was right."
Smirking, he scurried off to the A/V Lab.

Sam watched Brian walking off, leaving her very curious about his theory about the razorblades. But she soon tried to ignore her feeling of curiosity and turned back at Jade, to whom she'd only be listening half while she was talking to Brian. "Okay, uhm... let's write that down and see what we find out. Perhaps we can find profiles of these members on that forum, and it's probably hard to find out whether they're really the profiles of them but there could be clues in it of which identity they might use by now - I mean, it's not as if they're really that stupid to use their own identity for whatever. Wait a minute. How many people do we have on record that can make false identity cards?" Without waiting, Sam search the database for identity frauds on record. Too many. She narrowed the field down using some dates - the earliest date on which any of the Shen Jing Bing members had been in jail, and the last one they day they broke out. Still 82, still too many. When she entered the specific jail, the amount was narrowed down to 60. Sam thought out loud. "Okay, let's say they know someone who makes false IDs. He - or she - must've been released before they broke out, because this amount broke out and not more..." Narrowed down to 43. "He must be good, they like perfect plans, or semi-perfect plans... Perhaps caught only once, maybe twice, and very good. Oh no - " Sam groaned. "Not him." She turned to Jade. "Have you ever heard Ryuko or anyone else talk about one Daniel Miller? If you haven't, then that's okay - I might be totally wrong on this ID thing. I mean, I've been wrong before. If you have - well, then I have his phonenumber."

Brian had spent many hours before class began in high school working in the Media Lab... his school was one of the lucky ones that made announcements over the television on a private channel owned by the school. Even luckier was the fact that the staff let seniors run the station, so Brian was able to learn basic video production and editing skills.
He spent fifteen minutes applying these skills to the various clips of surveillance the intern had picked out for him, and then had everything all ready to go. Well, almost everything.
Brian heard the microwave in the break room ding, and he extracted a steaming bag of buttery popcorn. Ah, NOW he had everything.
"Hey guys," he said in a chipper mood, mouth full of popcorn, "Come check this out!" And he strode into the A/V Lab and plopped down in the seat by the video editing computer.

"Miller? The name sounds familiar, I think Ryuko talked about him a few times. I think that they were buddies...If I remember correctly, Ryuko might have enlisted him into the Shen Jing Bing." When Brian had called them, she smiled and followed him to the A/V Lab and stole some popcorn. "What'd ya get?"

"Hmm, might be. He was really in the picture some years ago. Every QD tech talked about him. He's kind of the Godfather of ID fraud and theft and big-time forgery and fraud. I once met him in real life, on a forensics thingy some years ago, when he was imprisoned and agreed to tell us all about forgery from the criminal's POV. I remember James being very impressed with everything that was known about Daniel. And James forgot I had his little black book in my purse, so I have his phone number. Might've changed by now, but I don't think so. But anyway, let's see what Brian's got. I've got this feeling this case is finally moving somewhere."

"Yeah, well, you know me and rules," Brian said mischievously as he played his video compilation.
A flashing text in the corner let everyone know that the original footage had been enhanced. The once grainy, dark security footage in the prison was now sharp, contrasted, and bright. It looked a little funny, but colors didn't matter in this case.
The first clip was watching over a checkpoint, from the recreation courtyard back into the prison. Correctional officers were searching the inmates, making sure they weren't smuggling weapons or drugs back into the prison after having been outside together for a period of time. The inmates were all lined up, passing through a metal detector one by one before being patted down. An Asian inmate was immediately pulled aside, having set off the metal detector. Brian paused and pointed to the inmate directly behind him.
"Watch this guys," Brian said quietly.
The inmate behind the Asian one quickly slid a metal object, about eight inches long, along the floor and through the metal detector. The inmate directly in front of the Asian one, who had already been searched, bent over and picked up the object within the blink of an eye. The clip played again in slow motion, showing how the Asian inmate distracted the guards by setting off the metal detector, so nobody noticed the other two men smuggling in the strange object.
"That Asian inmate," Brian said, "Was searched and a razor blade was found tucked in his sock. The sock, as you all know, is a very obvious place for criminals to hide things. He wanted that to set off the detector, and he wanted it to be found quickly. Why? Well, this was the first incident where this happened. Watch the next one."
The next clip showed a similar situation, except the guard had been doubled, and the pat-downs were taking three times as long. The guards were paranoid about razors getting in! However, this next Asian inmate had hidden the razor rather well, making sure the extra guards took extra time to find it, in order to buy the smugglers behind and in front of him more time.
"A quick change of tactics, and, voila! They have a full blown smuggling operation going on. I am not quite sure what they are smuggling in, though. Could be gun parts, or pieces of pipe, or other tools... I can't tell. But basically, it was simple. The center man in the line sets off the detector, and the men in front and behind him sneak a piece through. Why razor blades? They are small but dangerous, and so put the guards on edge. Scared guards means more mistakes, right?"
Brian took note of the fact that the popcorn had been eaten rather quickly. Must have been a good movie for them. He continued,
"My guess is that someone would drive by the prison and throw a handful of razorblades at the courtyard fence at night, so the the blades wouldn't reflect the sunlight, and the guards in the towers wouldn't notice. All they'd see is a car drive by. And it was probably a different car every time. But at that point, all an inmate would have to do would wait for a few seconds until the guards were looking another way, grab a razor blade from the back of the courtyard, and there you go. Whatever it is they are smuggling in probably had some inside help, though."
Brian sat back, quite proud of himself.

In the meantime, Rhia and Zora had walked up to the front door with officer Tyler as backup. He had his gun ready, whereas Rhia was still doubting. But then, it was extremely dangerous. So she drew her weapon as well. Knocking on the door with her fist, she screamed:
"New York Crimelab. Open the door!"
No response. All they could hear was quietness - no footsteps neither fleeing nor approaching ones. Rhia nodded and took a step aside. With one strong kick the officer had opened the door for them. Carefully Rhia stepped over the threshold, pointing her gun in front of her.
"New York Crimelab!", she shouted another time, sharpenin all her senses. Again no reply. Slowly she moved forward, feeling Zora beside and Jerry behind her. They went through the hall, a living room, a kitchen. Everything was empty.
"Let's get upstairs...", she whispered and started climing the stairs. The sound of their footsteps was muffled by a soft carpet. Reaching the top, Rhia noticed a certain smell, one got used to at this job. She followed it into a bedroom. There they found the man, lying spread-angled on the floor. His body was separated from his head and she had to close her eyes for a moment. Putting the weapon away, she draw her mobile.
"Sam? We've found him - they cut off his head. Maybe Jade knows more about that manner of killing?"

Sam looked at Brian's video, nodding every time he said something. Suddenly, her cell phone rang. Everybody looked up, probably a little irritated by this sudden thing. She mumbled "so sorry" and stepped out of the room before picking it up. "Found who?" she asked first. If it were James who'd been decapitated, well, then Sam wasn't so sure what she felt - happy he was dead or a little sad a man she had once loved was dead. Probably a mixture. "I'll ask Jade in a minute, Brian's worked on the security tapes and found some interesting bits."

Brian was busy fanning the popcorn smell out of the A/V lab, though he knew it was futile. Rhia was a CSI. She'd find out. Eventually. But he just needed to keep himself busy until more information came in.
